The Saskatoon Valkyries, in their first year of operation, won the inaugural Western Women’s Canadian Football League championship game. Played in Lethbridge, Alberta, the day following Quebec’s victory in the U18 Football Canada Cup, the Saskatoon Valkyries (Prairie conference champs) faced off against the Edmonton Storm (Western conference champs).
The game opened with both teams exchanging touchdowns but the last 5 minutes of the second quarter saw the Valkyries score two rushing touchdowns to put them up 21 to 7 at the break.
Another two touchdowns on the ground for the Valkyries put the game out of reach and gave them a championship victory and undefeated season. Final score was Saskatoon Valkyries 35 Edmonton Storm 7.
