Vert et Or shocks Carabins

In a tight encounter from beginning to end, the University of Montreal Carabins suffered a 16-12 setback to the Sherbrooke Vert et Or Sunday afternoon at CEPSUM Stadium.

The Vert et Or’s touchdown in the last five minutes of the game made ​​the difference.

While the score was 12-9 in favor of the Carabins during most of the second half, the Vert Et Or managed to score a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Isaac Lauzon snuck in to score a touchdown on a one yard run. The Vert et Or regained the lead and countered the Carabins attack until the end of the game.

The Vert et Or started the game strong in front aof the large crowd of 5023 people at CEPSUM Stadium. After a drive of nearly five minutes and a total distance of 98 yards, Alexander Aubé finally scored a touchdown on an eight-yard run.

However, the Carabins were able to contain the Vert et Or’s attack, limiting them to 116 total offensive yards in the first half. Moreover, the Carabins were cornered in their territory, and conceded two safeties in the first half to the Vert et Or.

On defense, Antoine Pruneau (Health and Physical Education) had another good outing with a nine tackles and recorded one sack. The Carabins scored their only touchdown of the day to the end of the first quarter. An interception by Djonathan Buissereth (Management, HEC Montreal), gave good field position to Carabins.  Then, running back Sean Thomas Erlington (Health and Physical Education) snuck into the end zone for a one yard run. In the fourth quarter Vert Et Or got to the Carabins 21-yard line.  However, the 28 yard field goal attempt by Jeff Alexander, hit the right post.

“After halftime, we should have continued what we were doing well in the first half,” said Maciocia after the game. “We did not execute our game well enough on the attack.”

“We have to look at ourselves in the mirror because we didn’t do our job.”

The game was marked by numerous penalties on both sides – a total of 242 penalty yards, including 141 by the Vert et Or.

Both rival teams will meet this upcoming Saturday at the University de Sherbrooke Stadium. The match will start at 1:00pm and will be broadcast by Radio-Canada on TV and on the website
