Wanderers thrive under rainy conditions

MFL: Β Wanderers win convincingly, ready to clinch home field

This past weekend at Rocky Stone Field, the Saint John Wanderers and the Moncton Mustangs played in the only game of the Martime Football League schedule as the Halifax Shockers, Capital City Gladiators and the PEI Privateers all had bye weeks.

The rainy conditions affected the Mustangs as the team committed multiple turnovers on the day and could not stop the Wanderers offence.

The Wanderers won the game 41-6.

Running back John Hanes had over 250 rushing yards on the day as well as scoring two touchdowns and one receiving touchdown.

Quarterback John Gollacki connected several times with wide receiver John Rosco. The wide receiver finished the game with over 100 receiving yards and scored one touchdown. Rosco also scored on a 65 yard reverse.

β€œThe conditions didn’t seem to affect us,” said Wanderers Head Coach Phil McGarvey. β€œOur offense has started to roll and Gollacki really started to get things going.”

β€œWe were able to get a lot of the young guys into the game. Β We had a hiccup against PEI two weeks ago but we have really started to click.”

Next week, the Wanderers play the Halifax Shockers in a game that will determine first place. Kick off is set for 7:00 pm on Saturday in Saint John.

“Winner is in first place,” said Phil. “They are one of the better teams in the league and it should be a great game.”
