Warriors begin search for new head coach and manager of operations

There will be a new face patrolling the sidelines at Warrior Stadium next season. The University of Waterloo is searching for a new Head Coach and Manager of Football Operations.

The Warriors begin the job search after finishing a disappointing 10th in the OUA this past season with a 1-7 record.

“Our goal is to hire a coach that can lead our program to become both successful and sustainable, while providing a positive experience for our student-athletes,” said Roly Webster, director of athletics and recreation at Waterloo. “We have affirmed our commitment to the football program and our student-athletes, and hiring a new Head Coach is the next step in moving this team forward.”

The Warrior’s new signal caller will be responsible for all areas of the football program including recruitment, revenue generation, financial management and leadership development. The new coach’s contract also calls for the successful candidate to create a strategic multi-year program plan that includes assessment and evaluation of football staff, student-athlete and team performance.

“We are looking for a football coach who can come in and lead this program back to a competitive level,” said Christine Stapleton, associate director of athletics. “We want to get back to a culture of winning on the football field to give our students the best possible experience on and off the field.”

Four different coaches have led the Warriors in the past five seasons. In the 2014 campaign, Marshall Bingeman acted as Interim Head Coach in his 23rd campaign with the Warriors following the departure of Joe Paopao to the CFL. It was the second time in Bingeman’s coaching career he acted as interim head coach. In 2006 Bingeman took over for Chris Triantafilou.

“Coach Bingeman is a loyal member of the Warrior football program, and we are grateful for his work following the departure of Joe Paopao,” said Stapleton. “We thank Marshall for his commitment during this important time of transition for the program and look forward to his future contributions under this new leadership.
