Warriors hire Sabourin as Strength and Conditioning Coordinator

The Waterloo Warriors Department of Athletics and Recreation is thrilled to announce Sam Sabourin as the strength and conditioning coordinator of the football program.Β  Sabourin makes the move from the University of Toronto where he served as an academic instructor in the faculty of kinesiology and physical education teaching the fundamental principles of fitness and exercise.

Sabourin also spent a year working as the varsity strength and conditioning coach training the Varsity Blues athletes.Β  Additionally, Sabourin has trained professional athletes working with the Paragenix System facilitating programs for NFL, NHL, and NCAA athletes.

Sabourin also brings a wealth of football playing experience to the black and gold having competed four seasons with the Queen’s Gaels with no shortage of accolades.Β  He collected the 2010 OUA rookie of the year award, was a three time OUA all-star and three time CIS all-Canadian.Β  He also competed in the 2013 CIS East-West Bowl and was listed in the CFL Scouting Bureau Top 10.

“We are thrilled to have Sam join our staff and football program,” mentioned football head coach, Chris Bertoia.Β  “Sam was an outstanding football player at Queen’s where he gained valuable experience as part of a very established program.Β  He has the necessary knowledge and desire to help our staff develop and strengthen our student-athletes so that they can compete with the top programs in the country.”

Sabourin also brings plenty of football coaching experience having led several different teams over the past five years.Β  Most recently Sabourin coached the Metro Toronto Wildcats, a competitive program in the Ontario Varsity Football League.Β  Additionally, Sabourin was a guest coach of the Queen’s Gaels during winter and spring practices (2014) and led their youth camps from 2011-2013.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to join the Warriors football program,” commented Sabourin.Β  “Strength and conditioning has become a vital component of any football program’s training regimen and if you hope to compete with the top CIS programs, you have to achieve and maintain a certain level of physical strength day in and day out.”

Strength and conditioning coordinator, Stacey Hamilton had this to say about the addition of Sabourin to the football program; “We are looking forward to the energy and dedication that Sam will bring to the team.Β  Not only does he have a solid background in football, he comes to us with enthusiasm to help grow and strengthen our student-athletes.”
Sabourin begins his duties immediately in time to build a rapport with the team before training camp starts on August 14.
