Waterloo adds Adams to coaching staff

The Waterloo Warriors football program is excited to announce the hiring of Darrell Adams as special teams, recruiting and video coordinator.Β  Adams will also be responsible for the coordination of all football camps.

“Darrell is a great addition to our football program, department and university community,” said head coach Chris Bertoia.Β  “We had many outstanding candidates for this position but Darrell stood out as the best fit for the characteristics we were seeking, and he has a proven track record as both a player and a coach.”

Adams joins the Warriors after three seasons with the Carleton Ravens football program where he was the head strength and conditioning coach and defensive line coach.Β  Adams aided in the rebirth of the Ravens football, a program that went from 0-8 to a first round playoff win in just three years of existence.Β  He was also responsible for recruiting student-athletes from Ontario and Quebec while at Carleton.

Prior to his tenure with Carleton, Adams was the head strength coach and assistant defensive line coach with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for two seasons (2011, 2012).

“Darrell has a sound approach to football and teaching,” commented Bertoia.Β  “He understands the educational mission of our great institution and demonstrates the integrity and values that are important to us in rebuilding this football program.”

In addition to his impressive accolades as a coach, Adams has had quite the playing career.Β  After an outstanding tenure with Villanova University (2001-05) where he graduated with a B.A. in communications and minor in marketing, he spent one and a half seasons with the New York Jets on their practice roster before heading north to become a three-year starter at defensive tackle for the Ti-Cats.

“I’m proud to be able to join the Warriors at such a prestigious academic university,” mentioned Adams.Β  “I’m excited about the opportunity to help rebuild a once dominant football program that went to four straight Yates Cups in the late 90’s.”

Adams will begin his duties as of Tuesday, March 1.
