The University of Waterloo Warriors Football program invites applications for the position of Assistant Coach. This is a full-time, 12-month position.  This contract position will begin March 1, 2016.  The successful candidate will report directly to the Head Coach.  This position’s responsibilities include the coordination of Recruiting, Video, and Camps while assisting on the field at the discretion of the Head Coach.  The successful candidate will assist the Head Coach in all phases of a competitive football program. The University of Waterloo Warrior Football Program is searching for an Assistant Coach with a lead role as Recruiting, Video and Camp Coordinator beginning March 1st 2016.

Job Description: Assistant Football Coach

Recruiting, Video and Camp Coordinator

Recruiting

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating all of the recruiting efforts of the football staff under the direction of the Head Coach including, but not limited to:

  • Identify, Qualify, and Personalize Prospective Student-Athletes
  • Create and maintain relationships with High School, CEGEP, Club and CJFL Coaches
  • Attending games, combines, and practices of potential recruits
  • Directing and organizing the football staff in attendance to above events
  • Operating, teaching and maintaining our recruiting software package, Front Rush
  • Creation of Excel databases tracking scholarship matrix
  • Maintaining regular contact with recruits through various communication outlets including social media
  • Creating and maintaining relationships with coaches in club and high school football teams
  • Setting and organizing recruit visits to campus,
  • Creating and working with local and national media outlets in regards to announcements of recruiting class
  • Organize & coordinate annual Recruiting Class Media Day
  • Directing football staff appropriately in additional contacts where required
  • Managing annual recruiting budget, submitting monthly reports to head coach
  • Track and account for all staff recruiting expenses for reimbursement

The candidate will be required to have strong computer skills in Excel, Outlook, and Word as well as be willing to learn the Front Rush recruiting software program. The candidate will also be required to have a complete knowledge and understanding of the New CIS recruiting regulations.

Video

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating all of the video requirements for the football program under the direction of the Assistant Coach including, but not limited to:

  • Organizing all of the filming staff for all practices and games
  • Record keeping in the proper inspection and maintenance of filming equipment
  • Editing of all practice and game film required for team use
  • Editing for the purpose of game preparation
  • Ensure all game film is uploaded and downloaded in accordance with OUA and team requirements
  • Creation of All-Canadian and highlight videos
  • The successful candidate will be required to learn our DV Sport video editing program, experience with DV Sport video editing program will be considered an asset

Youth/High School Football Camps Coordinator

Camps are an integral part of the operation of the football program for fundraising and awareness, the successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating the promotion and operations of our Youth Football Camps under the direction of the Assistant Coach including but not limited to:

  • Promotion of the camps to drive sales in our target markets
  • Responsible for organizing camp meals
  • Responsible for coordinating field/facility booking within Sports & Recreation department
  • Organization of camp coaches to ensure there are sufficient numbers to properly operate. Be present at all camps to lead the coaching staff and assist in coaching where required with the assistance of other full-time members of the coaching staff.

Assistant Coach

  • The successful candidate will work in conjunction with the Offensive Coordinator, the Defensive Coordinator and the Special Teams Coordinator in preparation for practices and games. These duties include but are not limited to video breakdown, card preparation, and scout team coaching.
  • Within a football program, there are numerous additional duties that require completion; the successful candidate will be able to assist the Head Coach and the staff in ensuring that these duties are fulfilled in a timely fashion.
  • On-Field Coaching duties will be at Head Coaches discretion, not limited to previous coaching experience.

Job Requirements

  • University degree preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle (mileage will be reimbursed).
  • Valid passport
  • Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.)
  • Proficient in Social Media (Facebook, Texting, Twitter, Instagram etc.)
  • Proficient in or commitment to become proficient in Front Rush recruiting software
  • Proficient in or commitment to become proficient in DV Sport video editing software

Experience

  • Previous experience at the CIS level preferred including coaching, recruiting, video and camp responsibilities, but not required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the sport of football from coaching at various levels including but not exclusive to CIS, CJFL, CEGEP, High School or Club

Commitment

  • This position requires the candidate to be flexible in hours, including evening and weekend work, holidays to be scheduled around CIS and University of Waterloo operational timelines. The position will exceed 40 hours per week in peak times.  The position will require the successful candidate to travel, primarily in Ontario, but may include out of province or out of country travel.
