WECSSAA Players of the Week (5): Bontorin, Hayes-Williams & Dagousse

WECSSAA Players of the Week ā€“ Week 5

Ā #15 ā€“ QB ā€“ Anthony Bontorin ā€“ Holy Names Knights

QB Anthony Bontorin (Gr.12) led a balanced, yet potent offense for the then #8 Knights in a huge 31-0 victory over the Cardinal Carter Cougars at Windsor Stadium. Bontorin threw for a 155 yards and a TD in just 3 quarters of play, while leading an offense that continues to produce without RB D’Angelo Knox. On a team with so many talented players and leaders, Head Coach Rob McIntyre had this to say of his senior pivot, ā€œAnthony has been an exceptional leader this year both on and off the field. He manages and controls the game very well and his teammates feed off of his confidence. Our team feels very confident in his abilities as a leader to help get us through the final few games of the regular season and into the playoffs.ā€ The #6 Knights (5-0) will look to remain undefeated this week when they travel to play the Brennan Cardinals (2-3) on Thursday at 3pm.

Ā #7 ā€“ WR/DB/KR ā€“ Omar Hayes-Williams ā€“ Massey Mustangs

Omar Hayes-Williams (Gr. 12) had a great all-around performance in helping Massey hang on in a 21-20 victory over the Essex Red Raiders at Windsor Stadium. Omar had a big day catching the football with 5 receptions for 115 yards and a TD, while totaling 60 yards on 3 kick-offs. Defensively Omar helped seal the win for the Mustangs with an interception on the last play of the game, as well as 9 tackles from his safety position. Massey Assistant Coach Logan Lenarduzzi on Omar, ā€œOmar has a combination of size, power and speed. On top of that, he has unbelievable stamina that allows him literally to never come off the field. In recent weeks Omar has been drawing a lot of attention from opposing defenses and this week should be much of the same. With that said, we do expect Omar to still be able to get open down field by running crisp routes and utilizing his great speed.ā€ The Mustangs (3-2) will look to continue their winning ways on Thursday when they play the St. Joseph’s Lasers (1-4) at 5pm at Windsor Stadium.

Ā #16 ā€“ LB/RB ā€“ Benji Dagousse ā€“ St. Joseph’s Lasers

Benji Dagousse (Gr. 12) rushed for 125 yards and a TD (receiving) in the Lasers’ first win of the season, a 21-8 victory over the St. Anne’s Saints. Head Coach David Fuerth on Dagousse, ā€œBenji has proven very difficult to tackle in all our games this year. He had some highlight reel runs this week where he routinely broke two and three tackles. Benji seems like he’s a threat to score every time he touches the ball.ā€ When asked about the remaining regular season games and playoffs, Fuerth said, ā€œWe have Massey and Brennan left, two teams with high quality coaches and the same calibre of players as us. There’s a lot at stake still, so we expect everyone’s A-game and some exciting football. As for the playoffs, they are distant for us right now. Since wins have been so scarce, we just try and focus on improving every single day at practice so we can peak at just the right time.ā€ This week the Lasers (1-4) will take on the Massey Mustangs (3-2) on Thursday at 5pm at Windsor Stadium.
