WECSSAA Players of the Week (8): Drouillard, Faubert & Van Espen

WECSSAA Players of the Week Β – Week 8:

#84 – WR – Chris Drouillard – Essex Red Raiders

Chris Drouillard (Gr. 12) had a game that most wide receivers can only dream of. Β In the 28-16 upset of the Kennedy Clippers in a Wilson Conference Quarter-Final, Drouillard caught 5 balls from QB Matt Hobson for 135 yards and 3 TDs. Head Coach Badi Qawwas on his star WR, β€œDrouillard is a big-play, big-game, sure-handed receiver who came up huge with three outstanding touchdown receptions.” Qawwas on the upset of the Clippers, β€œthey are a good, balanced team on both sides of the ball, so we had to play our absolute best to defeat the well coached Clippers.” Qawwas on the upcoming semi-final game against the St. Anne’s Saints, β€œthey’re a team that appears to be hitting their stride at the right time. It will take a disciplined, full team effort from the Red Raiders to defeat them and earn a spot in the Wilson Finals.” The Red Raiders will look to take that next step and earn a berth in the Wilson Conference Finals when they take on the St. Anne’s Saints on Friday at 5pm at Alumni Field.

#8 – QB/K – Jake Faubert – Belle River Nobles

Β Jake Faubert (Gr. 11) led the inspired Nobles to an 18-2Β upset over the Catholic Central Comets in a Newman Conference Quarter-Final. Jake scored a rushing TD, kicked 2 PAT’s, a 30-yard FG, and a rouge, accounting for 12 of the 18 Nobles’ points on the night. Coach Rick Dugal on Jake’s play against Catholic Central, β€œJake was a true leader and he managed the game like a veteran. He displayed all the qualities you want in a QB: poise under pressure, football intelligence, accurate passing, and a thorough understanding of our offense.” Dugal on the upcoming semi-final, β€œto be successful in the game, we need Jake to continue to do what he does best. We look forward to the challenge of taking on the best team in our league and one of the premier teams in the country, so I’m excited to see how Jake and the Nobles respond and perform in this game.” The Nobles will look to upset the #5 Holy Names Knights on Thursday at 7:30pm at Alumni Field.

#1 – DE/OLB – Rik Van Espen – Sandwich Sabres

Rik Van Espen (Gr. 12) had an exceptional defensive performance in the 20-7 win over the Brennan Cardinals in Wilson Conference Quarter-Final action. Van Espen totaled 16 tackles and 2 QB sacks for 38 defensive points. Head Coach Dan Milne on Van Espen’s play, β€œRik had an exceptional game not only making impact plays on the field but also calling our defensive adjustments during the game. Rik’s solid tackling and never-ending hustle helped energize the entire defense and propel us to victory.” Milne on the upcoming semi-final game, β€œMassey looks like a very tough opponent and a great challenge for our team. I’m looking for our guys to battle through some tough injuries and play with the character and determination I know they can summon against such a skilled and well coached team. I think we can expect a physical, close game with many momentum swings and an exciting finish.” The Sabres will look to earn a berth in the Wilson Conference Finals when they take on the Massey Mustangs on Thursday at 5pm at Alumni Field.
