Wedens Alexandre looks to make an impact

Wedens Alexandre is ready to take the next step.

The 16 year old has played slotback, wide receiver, and on special teams for the St. Leonard Cougars since the 2011 season, and is in the class of 2019.

Alexandre started playing organized football since he was nine, and has been a receiver in every season.

He’s not the biggest guy on the field, currently sitting at 5’8 and 147 lbs, but what he lacks in size he makes up for in raw talent. Alexandre has been apart of the QBFL all-star teams and most recently suited up for the QBFL squad at the Fox 40 Prospect Challenge weekend in Ottawa.

Alexandre says he loves the feeling of playing a skill position.

“I like to make plays when I catch the ball. I like to run with the ball and (make) big blocks.” He adds that his speed and vision give him an advantage over any other receiver.

In the seven years Alexandre has played football, one particular moment stands out. “The most memorable football experience I have was when I received my first trophy as a MVP player at my final (game) in 2013,” he mentions.

Although he does not graduate until 2019, he is already preparing for the next level.

“My expectation is to get more intense at my workouts during the off-season. I know the next level is going to be a real challenge (and I have to be ready).”

Wedens says football has taught him a lot in his young life.

“Football is like a second life for me because we learn discipline, punctuality, and courtesy. The coaches are like our parents and the teammates are brothers and we’re like a real family. This is not just a sport where you just have fun and it’s not a hobby.”

He’s had a speed bump in his early career on the gridiron after injuring his knee. However family helped him get through it.

“My brother is always there for me (at) my games, practices, and even when I had my knee surgery. (His support) helps me go as far as (I can) in my football career and he’s always given me advice (since I was born).
