Week 3 once again was a crucial one in the Maritime football league as Moncton got their first win of the Season. Saint-John moved to 3-0 and showed no signs of slowing down. The Wanderers remain in sole possession of 1st place.
Here is a Roundup of week 3 action in the MFL.

Moncton Mustangs 36 , Capital Area Gladiators 21
Wayne Crossman made the decision to try and play on the defensive side of the ball this summer. The way he played made him look like if he had been a defensive back his entire career. Crossman had 3 interceptions on the day and brought 2 of them back inside the Gladiators 20 yard line, leading to touchdowns both times. Crossman felt like the Mustangs had it in them all summer , they simply were making small mistakes that prevented them from winning football games.
“We have a good team, we are getting better every week, We played a complete football game tonight” said Crossman.
The Mustangs looked more like they have in previous seasons as Running backs Steve Cormier and Nick Maceachern broke various long runs and Quarterback Andrew Gallant completed many passes to all of his receivers. The Mustangs Controlled the clock for most of the contest as their Offensive line took control of the game making runs possible for their Running backs and also gave time to Gallant in the pocket. Mustangs touchdowns were scored by Steve Cormier with 2 , Nick Maceachern , Rufus Bedell and Justin Hanlon.
Capital Area was without various key players including Quarterback Brandon Cornford. The Gladiators kept the game close and where leading in various parts of the game but there offence came to a hault and did not wake up until late in the 4th quarter. Gladiators Touchdowns were scored by Matt Landry, Josh Blanchard and Aldin Pezerovic.
Mustangs Offensive lineman Dan Macarthur was very proud of his team’s performance and expects good things to come the rest of the season.
“We played Mustangs football today , we pounded the ball and gained yards as a unit, it’s a good feeling to get our first win here at home, next week is a big game for us, we want to even the score with Halifax, it was a tough loss in week 1 , it should be a good one” .
The Mustangs made things interesting as the win caused a 3 way tie for 2nd place in the standings as Capital Area and Halifax both moved to 1-2.
Saint John Wanderers 28, Halifax Shockers 1
The Wanderers stayed undefeated as they moved to 3-0 on the season after a convincing win on the road in Halifax. Saint John came out hard and once again their defence proved to be up for the task as they held the Shockers out of the End zone all day. The Wanderers defence has allowed a league low of 22 points and have caused various turnovers in the first 3 weeks. They have managed to make teams become one dimensional and have kept them out of the end zone. Alex Macgarvey had 2 interceptions for the Wanderers and the rest of the defence caused various turnovers throughout the game.
Jon Galacki once again led his offence completing various passes and showing his athletic ability outside of the pocket making him a very dangerous Pivot and keeping the Shockers defence on their toes. Jon Haines had a good day rushing the ball and found various weak spots in the Shockers defence. The Wanderers Touchdowns came from Joel Seal, Jon Haines , Tyrell Sparks and Quarterback Jon Galacki also added one on the Ground.
The Shockers could not get anything going on the Offensive side of the ball leaving their defence tired and on the field for most of the Contest.
The Shockers loss moves them into a tie for 2nd place.
The Maritime football league has 2 games slated for next weekend as the Wanderers will make their way to Fredericton for a Friday night game vs the Gladiators, game time is 8 pm at scotia north field. The other game will feature Moncton hosting Halifax on Saturday afternoon at 1 pm at Rocky stone.
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
