
(HALIFAX, N.S.) – Receiver Taylor Renaud and place kicker Thomas Blight of the CIS No. 9-ranked Acadia Axemen, along with defensive lineman Rob Jubenville of the Saint Mary’s Huskies have been selected as the AUS Football Players of the Week for their performances this past weekend.

Receiver Taylor Renaud of the CIS No. 9-ranked Acadia Axemen is the Atlantic University Sport Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending October 30th, 2011. Renaud, a third-year player from Winnipeg, Man., caught six passes for 123 yards receiving and a pair of touchdowns this past weekend as the Axemen wrapped up their regular season with a 34-15 road win over the StFX X-Men in Antigonish. Taylor, who finishes the 2011 regular season campaign as the AUS leader in receiving yardage (653 yards) and yards per catch (21.8 yards per catch), found the end zone twice in the opening quarter of Saturday’s victory, from 28 and 29 yards respectively.

Saint Mary’s defensive lineman Rob Jubenville is the Atlantic University Sport Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending October 30th, 2011. Jubenville, a fourth-year defensive lineman from Oshawa, Ont., recorded 7.0 solo tackles, three of which were for losses, including a career-high three sacks in Saturday’s 59-21 home victory over the Mount Allison Mounties. Rob, who finished the regular season as the AUS leader in sacks with 10.0, also forced a fumble and was credited with a quarterback hurry in the win. With the three sacks, Jubenville also became the all-time leader in school history with 17.5, tying him for second on the AUS career list* with Acadia’s Jake Thomas and former Axemen defensive end Kyle Markin. Place kicker Thomas Blight of the Acadia Axemen is the Atlantic University Sport Special Teams Player of the Week. Blight, a first-year student from Moncton, N.B., dressed in his first career university game this past weekend and accounted for 10 of Acadia’s 34 points in a 34-15 victory over the StFX X-Men. Thomas was 2-of-3 on his field goal attempts, including successful kicks from 35 and 38 yards respectively, and was good on all four PAT kicks. He also averaged 48.2 yards on six kickoffs in the win.
