Week in Review – BCFC Semi-Finals

The Cullen Cup final is now set in stone as the top two teams in the BCFC will battle Sunday afternoon. In a rematch of the 2008 final, the Okanagan Sun will host the two time defending champion Vancouver Island Raiders.

Sunday afternoon the Sun punched their ticket to the final after a 30-20 win over the Victoria Rebels. For the third consecutive week the Sun used a very strong second quarter to extend their lead.

Quarterback Bobby Davis finished 11 of 27 for 234 yards and had his ninth touchdown pass against the Rebels this season. He would also lead the ground attack gaining 68 yards on five carries and record a nine yard major.

Coming off an injury Dan Turek caught three balls for 98 yards and had a touchdown. Dylan Matheson also caught three passes, for 46 yards and a touchdown. The reigning CJFL offensive player of the week Steven Shott had two catches for 27 yards.

Shott is also the reigning CJFL special teams player of the week, hitting two field goals from 25 and 49 yards out.

Defensively the Sun picked up where they left off in the regular season forcing three turnovers. Daylon Pommier had two interceptions and Steven Doege had a fumble recovery. Doege also had three tackles, an assist, blocked a convert and had a sack, while Charles Henderson led the club with eight solo tackles. Derek Hurlock had his best game as a Sun with five solo tackles and two assists.

The Victoria Rebels had their season come to a close after a hard fought battle on Thanksgiving Sunday.

They would outgain the Sun in net offense with 391 yards. The Rebels were led by quarterback Cat Todorovich who had a wonderful game. He finished 15 of 30 for 297 yards and threw three touchdowns. Todorovich would also run four times for 36 yards.

Nick Goguen led the receiverā€™s corp. with four catches for 96 yards and had a 69 yard touchdown. Travis Corazza had three catches for 85 yards. Sam Adu and defensive lineman Taylor Gudgeon also caught touchdown passes from Todorovich.

Adu would lead the ground game with 20 carries for 88 yards.

The Rebels defence had a very solid game recording four sacks; Rob Ramsay, Adam Grilj, Justin Perrie, Gudgeon all got to the quarterback. The ā€œDā€ forced two turnovers as Colton Farago and Ramsay both recovered fumbles. Along with his fumble recovery Farago had three solo tackles, one assist, two special teams tackles and a special teams assist. Antinio White had four solo tackles, while Grilj and Blake Ector each had three.

The Sun will now host the Vancouver Island Raiders in the BCFC Cullen Cup on Sunday afternoon at the Apple Bowl. The Rebels season is over.

The Vancouver Island Raiders will make their fifth straight appearance in the Cullen Cup after a 46-10 semi final victory over the South Surrey Rams on Saturday.

In a rain drenched game the Raiders outgained the Rams in net offense 346-113 yards.
BCFC Offensive Player of the Year quarterback Jordan Yantz was just five of 10 for 144 yards and threw a touchdown. Whitman Tomusiak caught three passes for 73 yards and had the lone touchdown reception.

With the rain soaked game the run game took over. BCFC rushing leader Jordan Botel carried 17 times for 125 yards and scored two touchdowns. Tyler Bates had nine carries for 70 yards.

Kicker Mark Mueller was 3-3 in field goals and 5-5 in converts.

The Raiders defence would help the scoring cause thanks to a 26 yard fumble return for a touchdown by Ryan Wellman. Teddy Ash and Nick Woznesenski also recovered fumbles while Prashant Chaube made two interceptions. Cam Hoffman made six special teams tackles and had an assist. Ranji Atwall made two solo tackles and had three assists.

For the second consecutive year the South Surrey Ramsā€™ season came to a close in Nanaimo.

Rookie quarterback Nathaniel White struggled in the rain completing just three passes for 61 yards and threw two picks. Karl Delong, Griffin Bullock and Everad Jackson caught the three passes.

On the ground the Rams gained only 60 yards, led by Joseph Kuma-Mintah carrying seven times for 17 yards and scored a touchdown. White also picked up 17 yards on two runs.

On the ā€œDā€ side of things, Kofi Kuma-Mintah and Jon Ellingson picked up fumbles. Spencer Boehm had five solo tackles and a forced fumble, while Nick Felicella had four tackles. Seven Rams had a multi-tackle game.

The Raiders will move onto the Cullen Cup next Sunday in Kelowna, while the Rams season is over.
