The coaches were impressed with his film and performance this summer. Weiland graduated from St. Francis de Sales in 2008 where he played football and ran track and was a First-Team All-District, All-Blade, and All-Press player. He was given the Golden Ball Award for Best Northwest Ohio running back on Sports Radio 1470 AM-The Ticket, was given the Weekend Warrior Award for Best Game of the week on BCSN-TV, and was also the team’s MVP. In high school, Weiland was a four year starter at Woodmore High School and St. Francis de Sales High School.

He was a three time 1,000 plus yard rusher, having 42 touchdowns, 3,600 rushing yards, 5,200 all-purpose yards, 238 tackles, 8 interceptions, and rushing for 368 yards and 5 touchdowns in a game. I also want to help my team win the OUA Championship and get to the playoffs. I have been working hard all summer and I have visited Toronto and practiced with the team a little bit this summer.” University of Toronto is the number 1 academic institution in Canada and top 10 in the world.

The University has over 70,000 students and the city has over 6 million people. Weiland is majoring in English Education, and said “The ultimate goal is for me to get that education and hopefully I will get looks from the CFL/NFL and will get drafted.” After this season he could declare for the CFL/NFL draft if he gets invited to the combines.

Weiland trains 5-6 days per week and also plans on running track for Toronto. He has been clocked at a 10.6 100 meters and has been doing speed workouts to get even faster. “I want to be the fastest player on the field, track, or wherever I am. Speed kills and who knows maybe one day I can run in the next Olympics. I shoot for high goals and I know I can attain them.” Official training camp for Toronto starts on August 21, while Weiland plans on reporting a couple of days early to get settled in the big city.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
