COQUITLAM, BC- Nathan Lund hauled in a 64-yard touchdown pass and also had an 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, while teammate and fellow receiver Dallas Towle also had two touchdown catches to lead Team West to a dominating 45-10 victory at the 2013 Senior Bowl game at Percy Perry Stadium in Coquitlam.
Lund’s strong afternoon was enough to earn him the offensive player of the game award for Team West while defensive lineman Adam Marchetti, who had 17 tackles and three sacks, was named Team West’s defensive player of the game.
Receiver Rashaun Simonise earned offensive player of the game honours for Team East while linebacker Curtis Urlacher was named defensive player of the game for Team East.
Team East opened the scoring on the game’s first drive thanks to a 35-yard field goal by receiver Anthony Gagnon, who handled the majority of his team’s kicking duties.
Team West responded on their first offensive drive of the game with running back Mason Swift making a 14-yard run to cap off the drive to make the score 7-3 for Team West following the convert.
Team West extended their lead before the end of the first quarter to 14-3 after QB Daniel Spagnuolo connected with receiver Ryan MacDonald on a 23-yard touchdown pass. Team West would add a second-quarter field goal off the leg of defensive back Keegan Lensink to round out the first half scoring.
Spagnuolo would connect with Lund on a 64-yard pass early in the second half to open up a 24-3 lead before Team East quarterback Eric Borthistle would hit Simonise on a nice pass that would get Team East all the way down to the West one-yard line and allow running back Gabriel Pamintuan to make a one-yard plunge to cut the lead to 24-10.
On the very next play, however, Team West would put the game out of hand with Lund’s kickoff return. Towle would add a couple of late touchdowns to seal the deal for Team West.
Team West defensive back RJ Piche also added a pair of interceptions.
