Ilderton defensive lineman joins OUA team’s 2016 class

Western Mustangs have offically announced the addition of #CFC100 Spencer Hood to their football program.

The 6’4 330 pound defensive lineman from Ilderton, Ontario will join the team for the 2016 OUA season.

“We’ve known Spencer for along time and know he will be a great fit on our football team,” commented Mustangs Head Coach Greg Marshall.  “He’s very athletic for a big guy and is a welcome addition to our defensive line.”

Recently, Hood completed a stint with Canada Prep Raiders.  He began his gridiron journey in grade nine with high school team, Strathroy Saints of the Thames Valley Regional Athletic Association (TVRAA). Moreover, the lineman has been part of the London Jr. Mustangs organization of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

“Spencer has excelled at a high level for several years now,” added Mustangs Recruiting Coordinator Tom Flaxman.  “He was a member of the Team Ontario squad that won the gold in 2014 at the Football Canada Cup, he represented Canada at the International Bowl and I have had the chance to work with Spencer the last three season’s with Jr. Mustangs.”
“Spencer helps us address a need on our defensive line, were excited to welcome him to the Mustang family.”
For his part, the #CFC100 recruit is thrilled to be suiting up for the hometown CIS team.
“I truly believe I’ve made the best choice possible,” said Hood.  “For me, a few reasons iv decided to sign with Western is the football at Western is one of the best in the country and that’s been proven over the past years.”
“I have some understanding of Western’s defensive system through Jr. Mustangs. The atmosphere at Western has always been great and appealing to me. The academic side of Western is amazing.”
With his commitment, Hood is one of seven #CFC100 recruits to sign with the Mustangs.  The others include British Columbia linebacker Chris Ellis, Nova Scotia wide receiver/tight end Aidan Majury, Ontario running back Trey Humes, wide receiver Alex Salytchev as well as defensive linemen Tony Rossi (Manitoba) and Austin Miller (Ontario).
