Western MustangsΒ offensive linemen Shane Bergman and Eric Armitage were bothΒ selectedΒ Β in the annual Canadian Football League Draft held earlier today.Β Β The twoΒ linemen become the 25th and 26th Western Mustangs players to beΒ selected in theΒ CFL Draft since 2000.
Bergman becameΒ the first Mustang chosen on the day as he was selected by theΒ CalgaryΒ Stampeders in the sixth round, 48th overall, in Mondayβs draft.Β Armitage wasΒ picked in the seventh round, 56th overall, by the SaskatchewanΒ Β Roughriders.
BothΒ Β linemenΒ Β were key parts of a Mustangs offence that was among the best inΒ Β the nation inΒ 2012, ranking third in points per game (40.9) and total yards perΒ game (535.1)Β Β while leading the nation in rushing yards per game, averagingΒ 289.1 perΒ contest. The team also produced the CISβ leading rusher in GarretΒ Sanvido, whoΒ ran for 1,001 yards and 13 touchdowns in only seven games.
Bergman,Β aΒ Kingβs College student from Teeterville, Ontario, is an imposingΒ figure on theΒ Β Mustangs line standing in at 6β7β and weighing 352 pounds is oneΒ Β of the mostΒ physically dominating players in the OUA.
Armitage, alsoΒ Β a Kingβs College student from Denfield, Ontario, was named an OUAΒ All-Star for the first time in 2012, earning a spot on the Second Team withΒ his standoutΒ play this season.
