Fresh off of his first year behind centre with the Western Mustangs quarterback Will Finch will be showcasing his talents on another stage this summer as heāll be attending training camp with the Toronto Argonauts.
Finch will attend the camp as part of the CFLās initiative to develop Canadian quarterbacks by having each team invite at least one Canadian university quarterback to training camp. Itās the second consecutive year that Finch has participated in the program, as he attended last yearās Hamilton Tiger-Cats training camp before even playing his first down of university football.
āIt means a lot to me,ā said Finch on attending camp with the Argos. āNot many people get the opportunity to practice with a professional team and Iām very grateful to be put in this situation. Iām going to learn as much as possible and apply it to my game next season.ā
Finch was the nationās top quarterback recruit coming out of Burlington-Nelson High School last June and stepped in as Westernās starting quarterback midway through the 2012 season after an injury to senior pivot Donnie Marshall.
In the seven regular season games Finch appeared in he completed 49 of 89 passes for 818 yards and five touchdowns. He then put up even stronger numbers in the Mustangs two playoff games, throwing for 634 yards and six touchdowns on 44 of 66 passing.
After completing training camp with the Argos, Finch will return to Western and continue to prepare for the 2013 season which kicks off August 25 against the Toronto Varsity Blues.
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
