Who Looks Set to Win the Grey Cup This Year

Now that the pre-season is over and the CFL has finally got underway, it is time to look into which of the teams look the most likely to lift this season’s Grey Cup. The Toronto Argonauts romped to the Championship last year but teams on both the East and West of the divisions have strengthened in the off-season, and also brought through a number of exciting prospects via the draft. When it comes to sports betting Canada throws up many great events to wager on, but none like football, and here are our tips on who will win the Grey Cup this year.

BC Lions

BC Lions make for a tasty outside favorite for the trophy this year, currently sitting at odds of 11/1, they may be long, but there is always a chance. What will tip the balance in the Lions favor this year is the fact that Wally Buono is retiring at the end of this season, after 25 years as a head coach, and 5 Grey Cup victories during that time. Buono may have already had a retirement party, but after coming back to coach the Lions again, it could be that players such as 6-time all-star Jovan Olafioye and Jonathon Jennings, can help to give the legend the sign off that he deserves.

Calgary Stampeders

The Stamps are favorites to lift the Grey Cup this year at 11/5, yet there is certainly a sense of history repeating itself here, as the media and betting companies will very often pick Calgary out as favorites. The result in the last 4 years however, has been a Stamps team which has not quite risen to the occasion when it mattered most, despite winning more games in the last decade than any other, they have only won twice from 5 tries, could this year be different? Of those who will have a say in this, keep an eye out for Reggie Begelton to go from prospect to fully fledged star and James Vaughters who notched up 6 sacks in 10 games last year for the Stamps, to push for the Championship this year.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats

This is a team which has transformed radically since the beginning of last season, after conceding points as though there was a prize for the most given away. This year however, things look very different for the Cats, who are currently second favorites at 11/2 to lift the Grey Cup. June Jones and Jeremiah Masoli were the saviours of the franchise last year and having been re-signed as free agents by the Cats, they will no doubt be inspired to once again be the difference. Brandon Banks was a smart re-sign too, who plays a key role in that offensive line-up.

This year has all the makings of a great season, but where will your money go on the eventual winner?

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
