Forging bonds for success

CFC TOP 100 defensive end newest recruit to join CWUAA team’s 2014 class.

A CFC TOP 100 standout has opted to begin his CIS career at home.

Eric Wicijowski is the newest Regina Ram.  The 6’2, 245 pound defensive end from Regina, Saskatchewan will join the Rams for the 2014 CWUAA season.

“Staying at home, I get to play in front of my family and friends,” explained Wicijowski of his decision.  “They have a pretty good business program and I know that’s what I’m majoring in so I know I will be getting a great education at the university as well.”

Moreover, the strength of the football program and the bonds he has already forged with Rams’ coaches as well future teammates.

“I would say the factors that made me want to sign was the relationship I have with the coaches,” added the Regina defensive end.  “I have known lots of the coaches for quite some time.”

“The Defensive Line Coach there (Greg Nesbitt) has been coaching me for at least four years and I owe a lot of my successes to him and wanted to continue to be coached by him.  Also, I feel the team is going to be very competitive in the years to come with lots of good players coming in this year and the year before – quite a few of those I have played with and know very well.”

Wicijowski joins the Rams after a successful high school career with Dr. Martin Leboldus Golden Suns.  This past season, the team went undefeated with a 10-0 record en route to Regina 4A Championship and a Provincial Championship.  For his exceptional play this season, the CFC TOP 100 ranked player was selected as Regina 4A Lineman of the Year, Golden Suns Team MVP (voted by teammates) League All-Star selection at the defensive line position and League All-Star selection at the offensive guard position. Of note, Wicijowski also played on the offensive line during his time with the Golden Suns.

For two consecutive years, Wicijowski has represented his home province as a member of Team Saskatchewan at the Football Canada Cup – 2012 in London, Ontario and this past July in Moncton, New Brunswick.
