Wildcats begin 2015 Spring Camp

The Edmonton Wildcats Spring Camp kicked off Thursday and runs until Saturday in Rundle Park.

There are over 130 registrants for Spring Camp, comprising of over 40 returning veteran players and 90 prospective players. Included in the veteran returns are 5th year Quarterback Jordan Olson, who lead the PFC in most passing yards in the 2014 season. Also returning on the offensive side of the ball are 5th year Receivers Landyn Vick and Ryan Smith. Jon Harke returns as our centre, and 5th year Kurt Kereliuk leads the Offensive Line.  On the defensive side, Ryan Doram returns leading the Defensive Backs after a strong 2014 season, making three interceptions including one of a touchdown along with 19 solo tackles, 2 knockdowns and had a block. Leading the Defensive Line is 5th year Marcus Goods who finished 2014 with 22 tackles, 7 assisted tackles, and lead the team in sacks with 4.5.

The Spring Camp is also the first on-field introduction of our new General Manager, Bo Jereniuk. Bo comes to us with an extensive history in football in Edmonton, both with the Edmonton Huskies as well as the University of Alberta Golden Bears.

There are also three new coaches on our staff – Dave Easley, Frantz Clarkeson, and Jason McLean. Coach Easley will be on the defensive side of the ball, working with the secondary. He is the only coach in Canada to have won a championship in the Junior, CIS, and CFL leagues. Working with the receivers, Frantz Clarkeson is a Wildcat Alumnus, who coached CIS at UBC and U of A for the last 5 years. Jason McLean will be working with the Defensive Line, and brings with him 11 years of high school coaching experience.  Our returning coaches include Head Coach Darcy Park, Offensive Coordinator Greg Tyszka, Defensive Coordinator Greg High, Jeff Stead (QB’s), Sean Reader (Rec’s), Sean Brown (OL), Dan Schutte (DL), Tanner Lestus (DB’s) and Len Mora (DB’s).

Camp kicks off Thursday, May 7 at 7:00pm. Practice runs until 8:30pm on Thursday, Friday from 6:30-9:00pm and Saturday from 9:30am-1:15pm, followed by our annual Blue vs. White Scrimmage at 6:00pm.
