Windsor adds five more recruits including Western transfer Moynahan (video 2x)

Interim head coach Joe D’Amore is excited to announce the addition of five more players to the football program for 2011.

Highlighting the group are two of the top offensive linemen in Windsor-Essex, WECSSA all –stars Jeremy Veres and Evan Pavka.

Veres, at 6’1, 310lbs, and Pavka, at 6’5, 275lbs, will bring great size and athletic ability to the position. β€œI consider these two young men the top offensive linemen in the city,” said D’Amore. β€œJeremy is a tough physical player who moves very well for his size, and Evan is a former tight end who will grow into the tackle position, and has great feet for such a big kid.”

The two lineman captured an OVFL championship last summer with the Essex Ravens, and will be looking to repeat that championship again this coming summer with the Ravens.

Both Veres and Pavka will graduate from St. Joseph’s High School this spring, and will take Social Sciences in the fall at the University.

The Lancers also added two more athletes on the defensive side of the roster, with the addition of defensive back Marcus St. Aubin from St. Thomas Moore in Hamilton and defensive tackle Jeremy Rogers from Eastview S.S in Barrie.

β€œMarcus is a player everyone dreams of having,” said D’Amore. β€œHe is not only a top player, who comes from a top notch program, but an outstanding student who will be studying engineering in the fall.”

β€œAt seventeen, Jeremy is a young kid who has great size (6 β€˜1, 290lbs) and will be able to grow into his body and become a dominate player at the DT position,” D’Amore adds. β€œWe are excited to get him here and work with our strength and conditioning coach.”

Finally, the Lancers are adding a familiar face from the community to the team in 2011. Former WECSSA Defensive Player of the year in 2009, John Moynahan will return home and transfer to Windsor after a year at the University of Western Ontario.

Moynahan did not dress for the Mustangs in 2010, and therefore will be eligible to play for the Lancers without any delay. β€œWe are thrilled that he decided to return home and play for us this year,” D’Amore said. β€œHe will contribute immediately.”

The Lancers open training camp August 21st at Alumni Field to prepare for their season opener on Monday September 5th in the Labour Day classic against the Toronto Varsity Blues at the University of Windsor Stadium.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
