The Lancer Football team continued their impressive play this season with a convincing 41-21 victory over the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday night at Alumni Field.

Windsor used a balanced offensive attack to move to 4-1 on the season in front of 2,648 fans on a chilly evening that was part of Alumni Weekend at the University of Windsor.

In a penalty-riddled contest, the visiting Gryphons conceded a safety in the first quarter to give Windsor a 2-0 lead.

When Dan Cerino’s punt into a stiff wind kicked back towards the onrushing Lancers, defensive back A.J. Langlois dove and slapped the ball out of bounds, garnering Windsor possession deep in to Guelph territory.

From there, Kennedy engineered a drive that culminated in a one-yard scoring pass to Cory Fernandes.

Shomari Grant would add another 1 yard TD with less than two minutes left in the half.

On the next offensive possession, Guelph’s Jazz Lindsey completed a 40 yard toss to Kevin Campbell to give the Gryphons their first score of the game. The Gryphons cap off the touchdown with a two point conversion pass to Saxson Lindsey to make the score 16 – 8 Windsor at the half.

Taking the wind to open the second half, Windsor put up 18 third-quarter points to gain a 34-14 advantage. Scores came from Evan Pszczonak and Kennedy, along with a field goal and rouge from Cerino.

With the Gryphons driving in the fourth quarter and giving off the impression that they might make a game of it, McGarva stepped in front of a Jazz Lindsey pass, rambling 109 yards for another Lancers TD.

Kennedy was outstanding in the pocket going 21-for-28 176 yards and two touchdowns. Grant led the Lancers on the ground with 81 yards and a touchdown, while Jordan Brescacin had 76 yards receiving.

The Lancers will return home next Saturday to host the Queen’s Gaels in the Turkey Bowl. Kick-off is set for 7:00pm on Alumni Field. Source: Windsor Sports Info
