Lancers commits all about ‘family’

Lancers add two Ontario commits and a local commit to their 2018 class.

Mathew Maziarz, a linebacker from St. Martin Catholic Secondary School, may not be from the ‘city of roses,’ but it didn’t take him long to feel right at home in Windsor and with the University of Windsor Lancers.

Dan Mailloux, a quarterback from Tecumseh Vista Academy, and Andrew Cronin, a lineman from Huron Heights Secondary School will also be joining the Lancers.

Mathew Maziarz

When Mathew Maziarz visited the Lancers, he was treated like one of the boys. “I chose the University of Windsor because the coaches reiterated that the team is family and family means so much to me,” he said. “Windsor was constantly contacting me, asking how everything is going and making me feel as if I was already part of the family.”

The product of Mississauga, Ontario, added that, “The coaching staff at Windsor is a group of well-rounded individuals that not only know the game very well but have a true love for it. After speaking with some of the coaches for the past few months, I can see that they truly care for the team and the players.”

Thinking about his academic pursuits as well, Maziarz felt that Windsor was the perfect fit. “The thought that I can succeed here athletically and academically for the next five years made my decision effortless,” he said. He is interested in taking kinesiology or psychology.

Maziarz’s career is four seasons long. He spent one year with the Mississauga Warriors (OPFL). He has also played with the St. Martin Mustangs (ROPSSAA) since 2014 and has been a captain ever year he has been with the team. He is a two-time defensive MVP in 2014 and 2016. He was ranked as a CFC Top 40 prospect and he participated in the Fox 40 Prospect Challenge last year.

Dan Mailloux

Dan Mailloux played with the Tecumseh Vista Academy Vortex (WECSSAA). The 6’2 athlete is a multi-sport athlete having competed in both football and basketball. In 2016, he was an AA 1st-team all-city quarterback. He had 14 touchdown passes, five rushing touchdowns and 1,300 passing yards. He is from Windsor, Ontario.

Andrew Cronin

Andrew Croning is coming down to the border city from Keswick, Ontario, where he played with the Huron Heights Warriors (YRAA). He is 6’2, 300lbs and has played on both the offensive and defensive line. His main positions are defensive tackle and defensive end.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
