Windsor adds Ontario commit to Class of 2018.
Offensive lineman Tyler Lirette from Saunders Secondary School has made it official; he is going to be a Windsor Lancer. But, there is an unsung hero in his life that deserves the spotlight as much as he does.
βMy mother deserves a lot of credit that usually goes unnoticed,β Lirette said. βShe was the one who put me into sports at such a young age and did whatever she could financially to get me into sport. So, I was able to use those skills I learned and transfer them into football today.β
With the importance of family firmly ingrained, Lirette said he committed to Windsor because of its family atmosphere. βRight when I stepped into Head Coach DβAmoreβs office, I felt at home and comfortable. They really cared about me not just as a player, but as a person as well,β he said.
βThe coaching staff at Windsor is exactly what I feel like I need to succeed,β he added. βFrom recruiting to football dynamics, itβs done the right way. I believe in loyalty and Windsor showed loyalty to me from day one. That meant a lot to me and my decision.β
Lirette began playing football in grade nine with the Saunders Sabres (Thames Valley Regional Athletics) in his hometown of London, Ontario. The 6β4, 255lbs offensive tackle received the Sabresβ βheart awardβ in 2015. He was also a MVP on the Sabresβ junior basketball team. This June, he will be receiving the Todd Estabrooks Memorial Football Scholarship. It is awarded to a senior football player who is pursuing post-secondary education and shows heart, dedication and a love for the game.
Lirette is currently debating between psychology, social work and criminology. βI feel like later in my life I want to help people and I have the intangibles to do so,β he said.
Back on the football front, Lirette is excited to shore up the Lancersβ line of scrimmage. βI have the chance to be apart of something special,β Lirette said. βSomething that Windsor hasnβt had before.β
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
