Winnipeg recruit looks ahead to York’s future potential

Winnipeg offensive tackle signs with OUA team.

Peter Oliver is set for a reunion when he embarks on his CIS career.

Recently, the 6ā€™5, 298 pound offensive tackle from Winnipeg, Manitoba signed with the York Lions.Ā  Oliver will join the team for the 2015 OUA season.

ā€œI signed with York because it looks to be an up and coming CIS team, with a successful recruiting season this year,ā€ commented Oliver.Ā  ā€œThey also have an amazing fine arts program that I will be enrolling in.ā€

ā€œMy long term goal is to pursue a career as a band and possibly a physical education teacher.ā€

Moreover, the offensive tackle was swayed by what he encountered during his official visit to the OUA school.

ā€œThe coaching staff and players have reiterated the importance of family camaraderie in the team and after my visit to York, I’ve seen the relationships this team builds and I look forward to being a part of it,ā€ recalled Oliver.Ā  ā€œI truly believe signing with York will be a very positive educational and athletic experience that I will greatly benefit from.ā€

Among the teams Oliver played for include Garden City Fighting Gophers of the Winnipeg High School Football League (WHSFL) and Winnipeg Rifles of the Prairie Football Conference (PFC) in the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL).

With his signing, he will be reunited with former Rifles Head Coach Ryan Karhut who recently joined the Lions coaching staff.
