Winnipeg Rifles name new General Manager, round out coaching staff

The Winnipeg Rifles have named a new General Manager and announce today that they have rounded out their coaching staff for the 2013 season.

Mark Turner takes over as the clubs General Manager effective March 1, 2013. Mark has been involved with football in Manitoba for over 30 years. He has spent time with the Nomads, Mustangs and the Fearless in capacities including Coaching, Managing and Board of Directors. Mark understands what it takes, and who to call, in order to support the on-field operations. Mark is the Installation Manager for Advance Pro in Winnipeg. The Rifles are happy to have an experienced individual who is so respected in the football community on Board with the club.

The Rifles also announced today that Head Coach Ryan Karhut has rounded out his coaching Staff for the 2013 Season. Rifle and Bison standouts Nathan Freisen and Kenton Onofrychuk will be Karhutā€™s go-to guys as the Offensive and Defensive Coordinators. Freisen captured national attention in 2005 after leading the Rifles to the Conference finals and receiving the Wally Buono Award. Onofrychuk remains with the Rifles after previously coaching the Linebackers. Other returning coaches include Chris Bochen (5th season as offensive line coach) and Stephen Fedus (4th season as offensive line and protection coordinator), Kasali Akili (2nd) with the Defensive Backs.

New coaches added to the staff include former Blue Bomber standout Brett McNeil as the Defensive Line coach. Brett was a defensive lineman in Junior where he lead the Ottawa Sooners to the National Championship Game in 1986 before receiving a scholarship Colgate University. He transferred to Boston University where he eventually moved to Offensive Line and excelled for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Former Rifle Mark Greceffo will be the special teams coordinator and Linebackers coach. Former Greendell Falcons head coach and offensive coordinator Scott Angus joins the staff as an offensive assistant and scout team coordinator. Two former Bison players who also have coached the Rifles previously, round out the offensive staff as Running Backs coach Jeff Morgan and Receivers coach Kurt Reinfort sign on with the Rifles for the 2013 season.

This current coaching staff have a combined 23 years of CJFL and over 30 years of University football experience.
