Mississauga & versatile hometown standouts newest recruits to join 2014 OUA team’s class.

Three Ontario standouts have decided to begin their CIS careers in the OUA conference.

Jaedon Herron, Jonathan Timmons and Brian Lowrance are the newest members of the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks.Β  All three recruits will join the team for the 2014 OUA season.

Jaedon Herron 1

JAEDON HERRON:

The 5’11, 180 pound multi-position player has realized a childhood dream by virtue of his commitment to the Golden Hawks.

β€œI went with Laurier because it’s in my hometown of Kitchener-Waterloo and as a kid, I told myself one day I’m going to attend that school and play football for them,” explained Herron of his decision.Β  β€œI also liked how they have a new young coach as well as a young coaching staff.”

β€œI believe that with the new addition to the coaching staff as well as the players the program is on its way back the success of 2005.”

Herron joins the Golden Hawks after suiting up for his high school team, Resurrection Phoenix of the Waterloo County Secondary School Athletic Association (WCSSAA).Β  During his time with the Phoenix, he played at the quarterback, free safety, and running back position.Β  Moreover, he had a prominent role on special teams as a kick return and punt return specialist.

With the Cambridge Lions of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL), Herron was a wide receiver and played on special teams (kick/punt return).

β€œJaedon is a very versatile player, who played four different positions (quarterback, running back, wide receiver, defensive back) at Resurrection,” commented Golden Hawks Head Coach Michael Faulds on Herron’s commitment.Β  β€œWe are excited for him to come in and compete right away.”

β€œI foresee him working with Coach (Mark) Surya and our receivers at the start of camp.”

Jonathan Timmons 1

JONATHAN TIMMONS:

For the 6’1, 240 pound long snapper from Mississauga, Ontario, the atmosphere surrounding the football program, academics and the Waterloo, Ontario campus itself were the determining factors in his decision of where he would begin his CIS career.

β€œI chose Laurier because of the program, the coaching staff and the campus,” said Timmons.Β  β€œLaurier is well known for having a tremendous history program for which I intend to major in and get a minor in sociology.”

β€œAlso, the coaching staff made me feel well at home on my visits there and I’ve already been coached by Anthony Cannon (who is the Defensive Line Coach at Laurier) and I enjoy learning from him. Lastly, it was love at first sight with the campus, it is beautiful and compact which is what I was looking for in a university.”

Timmons recently played for St. Marcellinus Spirit of the Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association (ROPSSAA) and the Oakville Titans of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC).

β€œJonathan is a very important piece to our recruiting class,” expressed Faulds of Timmons. Β β€œThere aren’t many talented long snappers coming out of high school, but Jonathan is definitely one of those.”

β€œIt is a position that can sometimes be over-looked, but is vital to succeed.”

Brian Lowrance 1

BRIAN LOWRANCE:

The 6’0, 185 pound defensive back from Mississauga, Ontario was sold on the school after his official visit, which took place after Homecoming.

β€œI chose Laurier because I loved the environment around the campus and especially in the locker room when I visited for Homecoming,” recalled Lowrance.Β  β€œThe campus is a perfect size, not to small but you’re more than just a number and the athletic facilities were great. β€œ

β€œOn Game Day, the stadium was packed and full of energy; the team has talent and has a lot of potential.Β  The team is on the rise and definitely has big things in the near future that I am hoping to contribute too.Β  I liked the coaching staff with Coach (Michael) Faulds and Coach (Dwayne) Cameron, Coach (Anthony) Cannon – who I train with in the offseason, and think they will take this team far.Β  I had a great meeting with an advisor from the science department and liked the sound of the programs.”

Recently, Lowrance finished his high school career with the Lorne Park Spartans of the Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association (ROPSSAA).Β  This past season, he had four picks and a blocked field goal with the Spartans.Β  For four years, he suited up for the Mississauga Warriors of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).Β  With the Warriors, the defensive back registered 18 tackles, four batted balls and three picks.

β€œBrian had an incredible senior season at Lorne Park this year and was a huge reason for their undefeated season,” commented Faulds.Β  Β β€œHe will be a great addition to our defensive back group and also to our special teams.”
