McLean dismissed
TORONTO, March 16, 2010 — York University … TORONTO, March 16, 2010 — York University Sport & Recreation announced today that Mike McLean, head coach of the York Lions football team, has been relieved of his duties.

“This decision was not made lightly,” York’s athletic director Jennifer Myers said. “Following a thorough review, we determined that a change in leadership would be in the best interest of the football program, after it became apparent we had philosophical differences. York thanks Mike for his contribution to York Lions football, and we wish him the best in his future.”
A national search for a new head coach will commence immediately.

“I have great expectations for the York Lions football program,” Myers said. “Sport and Recreation is committed to building a solid foundation for a nationally competitive program, because of the value football brings to the University as a whole. I look forward to the hiring of a new head coach who will lead this football program into the future.”
York University President Mamdouh Shoukri added, “The University strongly supports the York Lions football program as it enters this rebuilding phase, and I am confident that a new approach will be developed around a solid student-athlete model. Interuniversity sport plays a huge role in the overall student experience, and I look forward to witnessing this upcoming chapter of York Lions Football.”
The York Lions begin their 2010 football season on the road Monday, Sept 6th against the Guelph Gryphons. The home opener is scheduled for Saturday, September 11th at York Stadium, when the Lions will play host to the Ottawa Gee-Gees.
