York Head Coaching Position

York University is looking for a dynamic Head Football Coach to lead the York Lions Football team.

Sport York has a strong tradition of excellence since it’s inception in 1965 winning 166 provincial banners and 29 national titles. Football at York plays a critical role in the image of the University and establishing a sense of pride and community. Sport York is dedicated to creating the foundation of a national championship football program, and is looking for an incumbent with a holistic student-athlete vision, an ethical decision maker, who will work with various stakeholders to establish and maintain a championship culture.

Revenue generation for program enhancement and building strong relations with football alumni and friends are key priorities. This position works with the Director, Sport & Recreation and Manager, Interuniversity Sport, to set revenue targets and to raise the agreed upon level of annual revenues that will directly support program enhancement. This position is responsible for building and maintaining a strong alumni base through offering events, tournaments, functions and support of the Football 5th Quarter Club.

Participating as a member of the interuniversity sport unit, the incumbent will have a clear vision for the football program, and be able to articulate that vision to various stakeholders, including senior administration and alumni. The incumbent will demonstrate proficiency in creating a culture that embraces and supports student-athletes, coaches and teams in the pursuit of excellence and will contribute to the formulation of programs and services that support the overall program and create an excellent student experience.

Education:
University degree in kinesiology/physical education or related area; master’s degree preferred. NCCP Certification Level II or equivalent preferred.

Experience:
Minimum five years coaching football, preferably at the university level.

Skills:
Full technical knowledge of, and a demonstrated ability to analyze, all aspects of football. Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills; instructional, coaching and motivating skills; influencing and team building skills. Demonstrated skills/abilities in planning and organizing, taking initiative, and exercising good judgment. Ability to maintain tact and composure in a highly competitive environment. Numeric and record keeping skills; good written communication skills; and established recruiting networks

Duration: Full-time, three year term
Hours: Flexible work week during sport season/academic year to incorporate training, practices, competition and travel, admin/service obligations and student consultation
