Full-time Special Teams and Defensive Assistant Football Coach (Contract)

York University is looking for dynamic Full-time Special Teams and Defensive Assistant Football Coach to join the York Lions Football program.

Sport York has a strong tradition of excellence since it’s inception in 1965 winning 166 provincial banners and 31 national titles. Football at York plays a critical role in the image of the University and establishing a sense of pride and community. Sport York is dedicated to creating the foundation of a national championship football program, and is looking for incumbents with a holistic student-athlete vision who will work with the Head Coach and various stakeholders to establish and maintain a championship culture.

The successful candidate will work under the guidance of Head Coach Warren Craney, a defensive specialist with a resume full of international coaching experience. In addition to being at the helm of the Lions since 2011, he is currently also the head coach of the Canadian Junior National Team for the IFAF Junior World Championships this summer in Kuwait, and in 2016.Β  The position will assist in the operation of the York Lions Football program, including a positional coaching role and Special Teams, athlete recruitment in high schools, academic support and other team administrative duties.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical and tactical knowledge with experience coaching at a highly competitive level. The incumbent will demonstrate proficiency in creating a culture that embraces and supports student-athletes, coaches and teams in the pursuit of excellence and will contribute to the formulation of programs and services that support the overall program and create an excellent student experience. The candidate will also perform various administrative duties within the football program, under the direction of the Head Coach.

Education:

University degree in kinesiology/physical education or related area preferred. NCCP Certification Level II or equivalent preferred.

Experience:

Minimum three years coaching football, preferably at the university level. Administrative experience an asset.

Skills:

Full technical knowledge of, and a demonstrated ability to analyze, all aspects of football. Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills; instructional, coaching and motivating skills; influencing and team building skills. Demonstrated skills/abilities in planning and organizing, taking initiative, and exercising good judgment. Ability to maintain tact and composure in a highly competitive environment. Numeric and record keeping skills; good written communication skills; and established recruiting networks

Position Available:Β  Assistant Football Coach

Salary: Compensable with experience

Duration: Contract (potential for renewal)

Hours: Flexible work week during sport season/academic year to incorporate training, practices, competition and travel, admin/service obligations and student consultation.
