York opens camp under new regime

Members of the York University Lions football team began arriving on campus Thursday morning (Aug. 19) and will hit the field for the first time on Friday as training camp gets underway.

The student-athletes’ next few weeks will be full of team meetings and practices as the squad prepares for the upcoming season under the direction of new head coach Warren Craney, who has already begun putting his own stamp on the team.

Returning players and recruits alike will be learning new offensive and defensive schemes with recently-hired co-ordinators Michael Faulds and Harry Laflamme taking over on either side of the ball.

Two-a-day practices will continue until Thursday, Aug. 26. The Lions will then have an off day as they travel to Quebec City for an exhibition game against the Laval Rouge et Or on Sunday, Aug. 29 at 1pm at PEPS Stadium. The team will then return home for the 2010 season opener against the Guelph Gryphons on Monday, Sept. 6 beginning at 1pm at York Stadium.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
