Ottawa defensive back joins OUA team’s 2016 class

One visit is all it took for Ross Polito to commit to his future CIS home.

The 5’11, 185 pound defensive back from Ottawa, Ontaio signed with the York Lions.  Polito will join the Lions for the 2016 OUA season.

“When my dad and I went on my first official visit to York there was a real family environment with the players,coaches and entire athletic department,” recalled the defensive standout of his visit.  “Getting to know the coaches face to face was an important factor and when talking to Coach [Warren] Craney one on one I knew that I wanted to play for him for the next four to five years.”

Overall, Polito found the perfect combination of football and academics at the OUA campus.

“I wanted to be apart of the team rebuilding to a winning program,” elaborated Polito.  “Also, academics was a huge factor.”

“With the student-athlete support programs and PAWS program, I knew I would be able to balance athletics and academics.”

During his career, the defensive back has suited up for multiple teams including Sacred Heart Huskies of the National Capital Secondary School Athletic Association (NCSSAA), Ottawa Myers Riders of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) as well as both the Bell Warriors and Bel-Air Norsemen of the National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA).

Among the honours he’s received include Midget All-Star (2015) and NCAFA All-Star (2014).
