Today, Football Canada announced its 26-man Football Canada Cup all-star team, chosen from standouts that competed in the 2015 edition of the under-18 national tackle football championship, from July 13-19 at CΓ©gep Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieuβs Alphonse-Desjardins Stadium (see roster below).
This group of 26 Canada Cup all-stars will be joined by an additional 14 to form a roster of 40 players, invited to compete against Team USA in the U18 game, at the 2016 International Bowl series. The third installment of the Canada-U.S. series, is tentatively scheduled between late January and early February, 2016 in Arlington, Texas. The final 14 players will be announced in the coming weeks.
The 2015 Canada Cup consisted of eight participating teams from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and two from host Quebec β Quebec-Blue and Quebec-White.
Canada returns last yearβs player of the game, #CFC100Β Jevante Stanley, in addition to Quebec standouts, Samuel Makwanda and Cheikhe Sidy Sow.
This yearβs Football Canada Cup winning head coach, Brad Collinson, of Quebec-Blue, will serve as Canadaβs U18 head coach while the remainder of the coaching staff will be comprised of coaches from each of the national championshipβs participating provincial teams. Collinson previously served as head coach of Canadaβs U18 International Bowl squad in the gameβs inaugural installment in 2014.
International Bowl games to help select Junior National Team
Canadaβs U18 and U19 games will serve as a final step in the selection process for Canadaβs Junior National Team as they prepare for the 2016 IFAF U-19 World Championship.
Canada undefeated in U18 International Bowl contest
Canada U18βs head into their third International Bowl undefeated, after taking the 2015 edition at AT&T Stadium, 25-9, while in 2014, they defeated their U.S counterparts, 53-9, at Maverick Stadium. The event, held to coincide with NCAAβs National Signing Day, was established in 2010 as an annual Team USA versus the World game until it transitioned into its current format in 2014.
