St. Catharines Kiwanis Field was the location of the 2015 Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC). The top varsity amateur players from Ontario converged for an entertaining opening game.
Team Halton-Peel edged Team West in the 2015 OPC 15-14
Guided by Head Coach Anthony Mandalfino, Team Halton-Peel hit the scoreboard in the first quarter as pivot Clarke McCallum connected with Connor Knight for a nine yard major
A talent filled Team West roster included top picks from the Hamilton, Niagara and Guelph area. # 54 Teddy Manzel, Zenith Helmets Defensive MVP said the team was “well prepared”.
In the first quarter, Team Halton Peel enjoyed a 14-0 lead as Mitchel Stodulski ran into the end zone on a 25 yard fumble recovery.
The West got on the scoreboard in the second quarter as Blair Robertson found Fisher for a 27 yard major to cut the deficit 14-7. Then four minutes later, Tyden Kelly talled a major on a 30 yard fumble recovery to tie things up 14-14.
The highlight of the first half was when receiver Cody Fisher has a 27 yard gain in the first quarter.
In the third quarter, Team Halton-Peel added a point which was ultimately was the difference in the outcome of the game they edged team Halton-Peel 15-14.
Team Halton-Peel defensive player Riley Littlejohn had a tackle and a sack while Team West’s Braedon Lehman had a total of 2.5 tackles and recorded two sacks.
Team Halton-Peel’s passing game totalling 241 yards versus 105 yards for Team West.
Dominic Mandalfino led all rushers with 25 yards.
