2025 CFC50 High School Rankings WEEK 2: Oak Park land the first blow in Manitoba

TOP HEADLINES

  • Are we witnessing the end of the Dakota dynasty in Manitoba? Of course, it’s not officially over yet with plenty of time to get the ship pointing in the right direction again, but Oak Park have landed the first critical blow with a hard-fought 11-3 victory in their WHSFL season opener to take over pole position. It’s one thing to land a punch in September. It’s a whole different story to throw the knockout blow in November. For now we’ve got advantage Raiders, but we would be shocked if this is the last time these two juggernauts meet in the middle of the ring this season.

  • Charles-Lemoyne staked their claim for a top 10 spot with another huge 36-29 victory over College Bourget to improve their record to 2-0 to start the year. It’s a massive jump up the rankings, and they’ll need to prove it’s not premature with another marquee matchup against Cure-Antoine-Labelle, who will be desperate to find their first W after falling short 14-10 against Saint-Francois this week.
  • The mysterious case of Notre Dame in Calgary. They still remain in the top 25 conversation after sliding by Ernest Manning with a slim 8-7 victory, and this comes off the back of a 14-14 tie against perennial Saskatoon powerhouse Holy Cross to kick off the year. They’ve earned their spot in the rankings so far, but we cannot wait until they finally line-up against St. Francis so we can truly find out who the front runners are in Calgary are this season. The same can be said about Salisbury and Spruce Grove, who will compete this week to settle who’s in the chase position behind Harry Ainlay in Edmonton.

CFC100 CLASS 2026 RANKINGS

  • For a long time everyone was cranking their necks to get a glimpse of Miller at the top of the Saskatchewan football mountain. Now the roles have been reversed with St. Joseph looking down from their throne after another big-time 37-25 victory over the Marauders. With their wins over Dakota and Miller to start the year, there’s only a handful of programs in the country who have challenged themselves the same way the Guardians have with non-league opponents. We already know Holy Cross are lurking in the shadows just waiting for their chance to paint Saskatoon green again. Unfortunately for high school football fans we will have to wait until the final week of the regular season for the Guardians and Crusaders to renew their rivalry on October 9th.
  • Football in Ontario is slowly coming back to life with some fantastic preseason matchups, and you can always rely on Nelson to seek out top-notch opponents to test their skills early. This past week they made the trip to Kingston to take on top 15 ranked Frontenac, and although the Falcons got the better of them in a 36-28 battle, it could be a sign that the Lords are ready and capable of reclaiming the HSSAA title with a trip to OFSAA in the cards. They now set their sights on a matchup A.N. Myer, who are currently ranked 16th and will be itching to get back in action after a heartbreaking loss to Corpus Christi at OFSAA last season.

  • Another interesting preseason matchup took place between Bishop Ryan and South to kickoff their campaigns. Bishop Ryan flirted with success in the tough Hamilton Catholic league last season, and look like they may be true contenders after a dominant 30-0 victory over the Lions, who are always near the top of the pile in London. They have the opportunity to build some early season momentum until they have to run the gauntlet in October with three straight matchups to end the regular season against Bishop Tonnos, St. Thomas More and Newman.
  • The exhibition schedule rolls on in British Columbia, and W.J. Mouat are looking like they will be one of the top programs again this season with a clutch 41-33 victory over Lord Tweedsmuir. The Hawks have no time to rest with another tough matchup upcoming against Terry Fox, and will need to really buckle down once the regular season begins with a grueling schedule that features South Delta, Robert Bateman and Vancouver College.
  • New Brunswick used to be one of the most predictable provinces prior to the pandemic, but ever since it’s been a crapshoot with so many programs stepping up their game to compete with Tantramar. The Titans won five straight between 2015-2019, but were only able to reclaim the crown for the first time since the lockdowns last season. Back to status quo right? Not a chance with Mathieu-Martin shocking the province with a colossal 30-10 victory against Tantramar to open the year. For more context, the Matadors were an afterthought in 2024 during a 0-6 campaign, but all of a sudden they find themselves amongst the top 50 programs in Canada. Now the real challenge will be to prove they can continue their winning ways with tough matchups against Riverview, Harrison Trimble and L’Odyssee left on the schedule, not to mention a potential rematch with the Titans down the road. Don’t you just love high school football?
