1- The 35th Grey Cup survived a fire

In 1947, the Toronto Argonauts Rowing Club building got burned down but remarkably the 35th Grey Cup survived. While all the other trophies in that place were destroyed in the fire.

2- A Toronto fan tripped a player

The 45th Grey Cup (which was played in 1957) became quite famous because of a Toronto fan named Dave Humphrey. It happened that Ray Bawel (Hamilton defensive back) was heading down the sideline for an apparent touchdown. That’s when Dave Humphrey put his foot out and tripped the Hamilton player. This incident didn’t have much effect on the game and Hamilton cruised to victory against Winnipeg.

3- The Grey Cup was suspended due to a thick fog

The 50th Grey Cup (which was played in 1962) remains the only Grey Cup game that was suspended during play. This occurred because a thick fog started to roll in over the field and players couldn’t play properly while fans couldn’t see the action. This game was finished the next day and Winnipeg won by 28-27 to claim the trophy.

4- The most successful team

Toronto Argonauts is the most successful team in the history of this competition, having won the Grey Cup for a record 17 times. While the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, who won the trophy 10 times, has made the most appearances (24). The latest winner of the Grey Cup is Calgary Stampeders who won their 8th trophy after defeating Ottawa Redblacks in November 2018.

5- An unusual Grey Cup

The 1912 Grey Cup was very unusual and strange in that the groundskeeper forgot to provide a game ball. The match was delayed for an hour as the officials searched for a football to start the game. They finally found a ball after kicking in a locker room door.
