2025 CFC50 High School Rankings WEEK 4: St. Paul’s and Centennial causing chaos

TOP HEADLINES

  • All of a sudden it looks like we’ve got a three horse race in Manitoba with St. Paul’s shooting up the rankings after securing a massive 28-16 victory over Oak Park to take over the top spot in Winnipeg. We’ve kept the Crusaders ranked through the first three weeks hanging out at the bottom of the list, but now they’ve hijacked the driver seat in a division that looks like it’ll be a dogfight to the finish between St. Paul’s, Oak Park and Dakota. They’ve been the most dominant program since 2000 taking home 11 provincial titles with their latest coming in 2022, and after watching Dakota steal all the headlines coming off back-to-back titles, it looks like the Crusaders are eager and ready to reclaim their throne. We’re looking forward to seeing how they match-up against the Lancers when they meet on October 2nd, and we also can’t overlook the 3-0 Vincent Massey Trojans who are off to a blinding start and will faceoff against St. Paul’s on October 13th.

  • Harry Ainlay hold onto the top spot for another week, but Salisbury put up a great fighting falling 20-10 to the reigning champions. We were wondering if they had managed to close the gap, and while nobody is going to be celebrating a 10 point loss, it’s gotta breathe some life into the Sabres locker room that on their best day they have what it takes to compete and even defeat the Titans when they meet again down the road. At this point in the year, the Alberta provincial playdowns are shaping up to be one of the most competitive we’ve seen in a long time.
  • Sticking with the theme, Ernest Manning picked up a huge statement win over Lethbridge CI finding a way to come out on top 24-19. This is significant for the Griffins who suffered two heartbreaking one point losses to Salisbury and Notre Dame to kickoff their campaign. They always say the best teams find ways to win close games, and Ernest Manning clearly put the work in behind the scenes to learn what went wrong, and were mentally strong enough to put it all together when it mattered most against the Rams. We can’t wait to see what happens between the white lines when they line-up against St. Francis on October 3rd.
  • Time to talk about another province that is shaping up to be photo finish with Centennial throwing their name in the contenders hat after a clutch 22-20 victory over South Delta in British Columbia. In reality we should’ve given the Centaurs more respect after dropping their opener against W.J. Mouat by 10 points, but we were waiting for some more concrete evidence that they were ready to compete at the pointy end this year, and they’ve now delivered after knocking off the runner-ups from last season. The long exhibition portion of the season is finally over, and as we head into the regular season there’s no clear favourite with all seven programs currently ranked having a reason to believe they have what it takes to go all the way to BC Place.

  • We finish up this week’s headlines in Ontario where Medway have staked their claim for a spot on the rankings after a convincing 30-0 win over London South to kickoff the TVRA campaign. That wasn’t the only surprising result with Oakridge digging deep to defeat Banting by a score of 17-7, which is a clear sign that we’re in for a wild ride in the London region again this year. The other ranking shakeup came outta Thunder Bay where St. Patrick’s knocked off their rivals and the defending champions Westgate 32-19 to open the season. We’ll leave you with a couple key matchups to watch this week with Frontenac taking on Holy Cross in Kingston, Bishop Tonnos squaring off against St. Thomas More in the Hamilton catholic league, while Westmount prepare for battle against Westdale on the public side of the city.
