2025 CFC50 High School Rankings WEEK 3: Armand-Corbeil send shockwaves through Quebec

TOP HEADLINES

  • When it comes to the highly competitive DI league in Quebec, we always expect the unexpected, and this past week Saint-Jean-Eudes rolled snake eyes – or should we say Scorpion eyes. Yes, we know scorpions have more than two eyes, but just go with the flow because after starting the season 0-2, nobody would’ve predicted Armand-Corbeil going toe-to-toe with the Condors and coming away with a gritty 10-6 victory over the defending champions. It’ll be a shock to the system for Saint-Jean-Eudes, but they’re in the exact same scenario they found themselves last year when they lost back-to-back games after a 2-0 start, and they then turned things around to win out the rest of the way en route to the Bol d’Or. For the Scorpions, it’s gotta be a huge confidence boost after dropping their season opener in overtime against College Notre-Dame, and then getting blanked 17-0 in their second contest against Academie Saint-Louis.

  • By proxy, the Armand Corbeil have also joined the top 50 despite dropping their first game 44-7 against Saint-Jean-Eudes, and they’re going to have to take everything they learned from that tough loss into consideration this week with another massive matchup against top 10 ranked Charles-Lemoyne, who’re now the only unbeaten left in the division. It might give us headaches on the rankings, but we absolutely live for the chaos in Quebec.
  • Salisbury continue to rise in the rankings after notching another big 36-19 victory over Spruce Grove to improve their record to 3-0. The impressive part is they haven’t beat any cupcake teams with their other two wins coming against quality opponents Austin O’Brien and Ernest Manning. But now comes the biggest test of them all with the Sabres preparing to take on number one ranked Harry Ainlay on Friday. Last year’s matchup didn’t go according to plan with the Titans cruising to a 44-8 victory, so we are very excited to see if Salisbury have managed to close the gap and can become true contenders to dethrone the kings of Alberta football. It’s going to be a tall task, but as we learned with Armand-Corbeil’s shocking victory, anything is possible in the world of Canadian high school football.
  • It was pretty much status quo across the rest of the provinces with no upsets or close calls to report, but Ontario is starting to heat up with some intriguing non-conference matchups and the regular season kicking off in a few locations which has led to some rearranging in the rankings and clarity about the regional hierarchy.

  • A.N. Myer proved they’re still a force to be reckon with after a 41-28 victory over Nelson. It’ll be a tough pill to swallow for Nelson dropping their first two games of the year against top 15 opponents, but we still believe the Lords have shown they have what it takes to compete with the top dogs if they can build on the positives and fine tune the negatives throughout their league campaign.
  • St. Roch have taken a slight step backwards in the ranking after a tight 20-18 victory over John F. Ross out of Guelph. It’s hard to truly judge any team off their first game of the year, and we are now intrigued to see how well John F. Ross handle themselves in District 10 this season.
  • Sir Fredrick Banting have also lost some traction after dropping a close 19-7 exhibition tune-up against South, who bounced back nicely after getting shutout in their first non-conference game against Bishop Ryan. It’s obviously early days, so in the grand scheme of things these games won’t mean much by the time November rolls around, but for now it provides a little snapshot of the competitive London league that always provides great storylines each year.
  • The Hamilton Catholic league is one of the few who kicked off the regular season this past week, and we were treated to a rivalry showdown with St. Thomas More getting the better of Newman in a hotly contested 21-14 affair. Bishop Ryan had the bye in week one, but we are looking forward to seeing how they get on against Cathedral in their season opener next week, meanwhile Bishop Tonnos picked up where they left off with a 42-7 blowout against St. Jean de Brebeuf.
  • On the other side of the Hamilton scene, Westdale made some noise this week with their 35-20 triumph over Notre Dame (Welland) in non-conference action. The Warriors gave Westmount a good run for their money last year, and will be itching to finally reclaim the Hamilton public crown after watching the Wildcats win six straight league titles. That’ll be a lot easier said than done with Westmount coming off a 19-7 victory in their season opener over Jacob Hespeler out of Cambridge, who are one of the most consistent programs in the nation and always provide quality competition.

CFC100 CLASS 2026 RANKINGS

  • We wrap-up our Ontario rundown in Ottawa, where we’ve slotted St. Matthew as the early favourites over the defending champions St. Joseph. It may be premature with it hard to judge exhibition games where programs are running through their lineups and trying to get everyone reps, but St. Matthew have been firing on all cylinders in their first two non-conference matchups against St. Peter’s and Regiopolis ND, while St. Joseph dropped their first matchup against Holy Cross out of Kingston. The Jags did rebound with a 27-9 victory over their twins from Cornwall the St. Joseph’s Panthers, but for now we’ve given Holy Cross the slight edge in rankings, and are very curious to see how they fair against top ten ranked Frontenac, who have had a stranglehold on Kingston in recent years.
  • Lastly we need to catch-up with Nova Scotia, who played some games after we released the rankings last week, including a highly anticipated matchup between Citadel and the defending champions Bay View. We were expecting fireworks from both sidelines, but Citadel were the only ones celebrating after a dominant 40-7 win over the Sharks, which they then followed up with another impressive 44-0 shutout against Dartmouth. This now sets up an exciting early season showdown for first place in the division between Citadel and Charles P. Allen, who have hit the ground running as well defeating Auburn Drive and Cobequid by a combined score of 98-6. Could this be a championship preview? You’ll just have to stay tuned.
