2026 CFC50 High School Rankings WEEK 4: Ontario hierarchy beginning to take shape

TOP HEADLINES

• Harry Ainlay might have come out on top 28-24, but Salisbury can stand tall knowing if a few plays go the other way they would’ve been celebrating a landmark victory instead of wondering what could have been. The Titans have been put on notice that their road through Edmonton won’t be easy with the Sabres standing in their way. With that said, they still hold the important psychological advantage that will carry into the next time these two play. Of course there’s no guarantee that they meet again, but we’d be lying if we said we aren’t already thinking about a rematch down the line with championship implications.

• Elsewhere in Alberta, we had another great non-league contest between Lethbridge C.I. and St. Francis. It was billed as heavyweight battle, and they didn’t disappoint with Lethbridge getting the last jab to secure a 29-28 victory. Both teams have already suffered a loss at the hands of Harry Ainlay earlier in the season, but it’s these types of high stakes games that will provide them with intel necessary to compete for the grand prize in November.
• The reigning Manitoba provincial champions Oak Park defended the castle with an offensive onslaught against Dakota en route to a huge 47-21 victory. Last season they had to grind tooth and nail to put up points against the Lancers defence, but this time around they had zero answers for the Raiders ruthless attack. This puts Oak Park in full control of their playoff destiny with back-to-back wins over Dakota and St. Paul’s, but they cannot afford to go into cruise control because they know both programs will be spending plenty of sleepless nights finding ways to shut them down in the playoffs.
• It’s one of the greatest rivalries in Canadian high school football, and this might have been the best edition yet with Holy Names and W.F. Herman left swinging in the middle of the ring until the referees told everyone to go home with the score still tied 28-28. Neither team could find a way to separate themselves in round one, but if they have the privilege of meeting again in the playoffs, somebody will need to land the knockout blow before the referees dismiss them.

CFC100 CLASS 2027 RANKINGS

• If you like defensive stalemates, then you wanted to be in Burlington this past week to witness Corpus Christi grind out a 7-6 victory over Assumption to take over the top spot in the Halton Catholic League. This was the game both teams had circled on the schedule when the season began, and the Longhorns will be feeling like this is step one in their revenge tour after losing to Assumption twice a year ago including in the league championship. On the other side, it will be a little bit of a wake up call for the Crusaders that winning the championship is incredibly difficult, but trying to repeat when the bullseye is squarely placed on your chest is a different challenge altogether.
• After a slight downturn last year in their results, South look to be back in full form with a triumphant 43-24 victory over St. Andre Bessette to open their campaign in London. Catholic Central still control the throne coming off a blowout against St. Joseph’s in their season opener, and unfortunately the Lions will not have a chance to meet them in the regular season, but if they keep winning people are going to start to dream about a potential playoff showdown between two of the traditional powerhouses in London.

NOMINATE A PLAYER FOR THE 2027 CFC PROSPECT GAME ON TSN TRYOUTS

• Rankings are always fun, but this is why you play the games. Heading into this week we had St. John’s and St. James sitting comfortably in the top 50 after playing a close-knit non-league game to start the year, but now they’re both left on the outside looking in. Brantford CI have joined the conversation with a convincing 24-7 victory over St. John’s to open their season in Brantford, while Centennial CVI claimed sole possession of first place in District 10 with a hard fought 14-7 win over St. James. The CWOSSA region has provided a ton of drama in recent history, and it looks like once again it’s going to be a bloodbath to determine who’ll be dancing at OFSAA in November.
• We finish off the week in British Columbia where Belmont continue to climb the rankings after a high scoring 44-34 victory against G.W. Graham. It’s still early days with the regular season finally set to kickoff this week, but the Bulldogs have to be very pleased with their efforts in exhibition play to set themselves up for a deep run in the playoffs. Their first big test comes against Langley this week, who will also be feeling like they deserve a spot on the rankings after a dominant three game display against Terry Fox, Holy Cross and Mission in September.
