OVFL: Metro Toronto season over after tough loss to Myers in wildcard playoffs

After such a historic day last Saturday for Trivel Pinto and the Metro Toronto Junior Wildcats, the team was riding a high heading into their wildcard playoff game against the Myers Riders in Ottawa.

Last week, Trivel “Jack of all Trades” PintoΒ Β set an OVFL single season record for receptions (62), and receiving yards (1008). He is the first and only player in Junior OV history to have surpassed the yards century mark. He also shattered the seven year old Wildcat record for yards in the season held by Justene Edwards who had 34 catches for 844 yards respectively.

The dynamic young talent picked up where he left off in the game against Myers, racking up over 140 yards from scrimmage with a touchdown on the ground, and one through the air. However, it was not enough to overcome a stellar late game surge by the Riders as the Wildcats fell 37-29.

With such prolific offences going head to head, the game was expected to be a shootout. Fans most definitely got their moneys worth, as neither team disappointed. A back and forth battle all game long, Metro headed into half time up 21-16. Several big plays to start the second half by Brad Innis, who racked up a season high 117 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries, helped the Wildcats to a seemingly comfortable 29-16 lead. Myers rallied three straight touchdowns in the fourth quarter to secure the comeback victory.

Injuries played a big part in the this one as Metro lost three defensive stalwarts in the game, including star defensive back Trevelle Wisdom. Wisdom had recently returned to the starting lineup after an injury plagued season which saw him miss several games due to a sprained ankle.

Trivel Pinto ended his record setting 2012 campaign with 13 total touchdowns (9 receiving, 4 rushing) 1085 yards receiving and 226 yards rushing. He will clearly be a force to be reckoned with for years to come in the OVFL and beyond.

With such dynamic talent on the roster on both sides of the ball, including Pinto, Deshawn Stevens, Trevelle Wisdom and more, the Metro Toronto Wildcats organization sure looks to have a bright future.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
