Thunder blast Bucs

OVFL: The junior varsity Thunder bounced back this week after last weeks loss to Essex with a decisive 35 to nothing victory over the Newmarket Bucs.

One week after allowing 433 yards of offence the Thunder defense played lights out football, holding Newmarket to three first downs all game and 136 yards of total offence. The Thunder defense caught more passes from Newmarket QB’s than the Bucs receivers, totaling four interceptions and holding both Newmarket QB’s to negative quarterback ratings. Ezekiel Doe, Marcus Hamilton, Raign Harris, and Daynar Facey all had picks with Facey taking his back for a pick six touchdown.

On offense the ground game set the tone as Andre Goulbourne and Steve Mpenga both notched 14 carries, rushing for 151 and 132 yards respectively while quarterback Connor Smith added 40 yards on the ground. Goulbourne had two touchdowns while Mpenga had one, in addition to a 51 yard touchdown Smith tossed to Kyele Nisbet.

The win brings the Thunder to 2-2 on the season as they prepare to travel to North Bay to take on the Bulldogs at 2pm this Saturday.
