On Saturday,Β Chatham-Kent Cougar PeeweeΒ team had one more gameΒ to go undefeated in the OFC Peewee Division playing against the Burlington Stampeders at home.
Nakoma Scott started off the scoring with the first 2 TDs in the first quarter giving the Cougars the 12-0 lead.Β Nakoma had a great game rushing for 97 yards and 2 TDs.
Darion Bacik played both ways as the starting LB and rotated in on offense on key downs.Β Darion scored the next TD on a great 15 yard run to give the Cougars an 18-0 lead in the 2nd quarter.Β Β With underΒ 2 minutes leftΒ in the half, Darion BacikΒ throw a perfect pass to Ethan Jordan along the sideline and Ethan was able to out run the Stampeder safety for a 65 yard TD connection.Β Cougars were up 24-0 at the half.
In the first seriesΒ of the 3rd quarter Darion Bacik had another amazing 65 yard run on a misdirection play where he out ran the Stampeders to the sidelilnes and then to the endzone to give the Cougars a 30-0 lead.
Late in the 4th quarter,Β EthanΒ Jordan was able to score on a 12 yardΒ QBΒ keeper.Β Hunter Shepley kicked the extra point to give the Cougars a commanding 37-0.Β Burlington score on the last play of the game to make the final 37-6.
Cougars defense had an amazingΒ game and season only allowing 4 TDs on 6 games.Β Tanner Hoorelbeck lead the defense and special teams with 12 tackles,Β Ethan Cuipka had 10 tackles, and Aiden LegroulxΒ and Russell JaquesΒ had 8 tackles, EvanΒ Torres and Hailey Penny had 5 tackles, Drey Ronda, Shawn Guy,Β and DanteΒ Handsor had 3 tackles each and Quinton Emerick had 1 INT and 1 fumble recovery.Β Tyler Shumanski and Griffeon Simpson hadΒ 5 tackles and 2 passes knocked downs between them.
Excellent blocking all game and all year by the Coguars Oline by Jake Deneau, Alex Sullo, Tyler Creechan, Tate O’Leary, Trevor Lawton, Nicholas Phillips,Β Noble Stonefish, and by TE Nolan Larouche.Β Larouche also had 2 key catches and a run for first downs in this game.Β At WRer Connor RoebuckΒ , Bennett Schaffer, and Darwin MitchellΒ had key blocks that turned first downs into TDs.Β Both Roebuck, Mitchell,Β and SchafferΒ hadΒ an amazing season catching the deep passΒ and blocking and on special teams.
Excellent season for the Peewee Cougars going undefeated this season and becoming the Peewee OFC Champion.Β This is the 2nd Peewee OntarioΒ ChampionshipΒ for Chatham-KentΒ Cougars.
