Ontario Prospect Challenge Profile: Fullback looking for #CFC100 future

Douglas Mayhew has three seasons worth of experience behind him.

The fullback started with the Hadley Hawks, and now plays with his high school team, the Philemon Wright Falcons.

Douglas has one year left at the senior level and is aspiring to pursue a scholarship after his final year.

The Falcon also participated in last year’s Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC).

Moreover, he spent the summer playing for Outaouais and had a three game tournament in Montreal.

During the offseason, he goes to the gym about four to five times a week to work on building strength, cardio and fundamentals such as footwork. As he sees it, when football season is over, building season begins.

His goals for this year’s OPC are to personally improve as a player, learn new things and showcase myself to the best of my abilities.

“This year has been my best to date and I look forward to bringing all I’ve got to the OPC and hopefully be recognized,” said Douglas.

As a 2017 graduate, the fullback is hoping to find himself on the #CFC100 list.

“If I’m able to play a little bit harder, train a little bit harder and perform a little better each time I set foot on a football field, hard work will pay off,” explained the Falcons standout. “Knowing you have the chance to earn a spot like that is enough motivation to make it happen.”

Douglas’ role models are his coaches at Philemon Wright.

“They always aspire to make us, the players, better athletes,” added the Falcons standout. “They motivate us to always put 110% in everything we do on and off the field, academics alongside football, there’s always room for improvement.”

“If you work hard enough, you can and will achieve your goals.  And that’s something I really love.”

He loves to play the sport because it’s team based. He loves having leadership, being able to teach new things to younger guys and because the team is like a big family that is willing to risk it all for one another.
