Alain Mainguy leaving McGill

After three years as coach of the offensive line and academic coordinator of the McGill Redmen football team, Alain Mainguy announces that he will not return to his position next year. He recently informed Ronald Hilaire, head coach of the team.

“I am at a one point in my life where I would like to pursue other challenges. I liked being part of the rebuilding of the football program at McGill and I think it’s on the right track. But now I would like to do something else. Since the beginning of my coaching career I have always enjoyed building up a program, seeing it grow and flourish. Whether at Benoit-Vachon High School, Académie Saint-Louis or the Cégep F.-X. Garneau, I love seeing a program climb the different levels on the field as well as in the classroom. ”

“Rebuilding a program is always demanding, but the results are worth it. And now, I think I have done my part. This is an opportune time for me to join a school, either at the college level or at the secondary level. I would like to pursue my passions for teaching as well as coaching at the same time. Football remains a passion that I can never ignore. That’s part of who I am. ”

Alain Mainguy can indeed be proud with regard to his career in Student Sports and football in particular. Winners of eight college and secondary Bol d’Or, champion of the Global World Junior Championship with the Canadian team in 2012, he relocated his family to Montreal that same year to join the Carabins de l’Université de Montréal. In 2014, he joined the Redmen, where he not only continued his trajectory as an offensive line coach but also became an academic coordinator, a responsibility tailored for this high school teacher.

During those three years with McGill, Coach Mainguy had the opportunity to represent his country a second time with the Canadian U18 team in Texas at the 2016 International Bowl where the U18 team won both its matches. Last spring, he was also named the offensive line coach for the East team at the CIS East-West Bowl.

“I want to thank Coach Hilaire and McGill for the last three years filled with emotions and good memories. As well as to Benoit Groulx for these two beautiful years on the offense where he taught me a lot about the finer points of different strategies. ”
