All-Star cast rejuvenates AKO fraternity

Sweeping changes in the front office leads to a new era of AKO Fratmen football.

Walter Spencer, a three time Grey Cup champion (Montreal ’09-’10, Toronto ’12) will assume the role of President. John Zucchet, the Defensive Coordinator of the AKO Fratmen ’99 National Championship team, has taken on the duties of Director of Football Operations, and Brian McCurdy, the 8th overall pick in the 1993 CFL Draft and a former assistant coach with University of Windsor and Wayne St University, has been hired as the GM. The three bring a wealth of professional experience and a championship pedigree.

β€œIt’s not about us, it’s about the community and restoring AKO to its former glory,” says Spencer. β€œWe have some of the best talent in the country right here in our own backyard. We have proven we can compete on the national level, and we will again.”

The Fratmen are entering a new era, however, it will be an era based on the fundamentals and ideals the Fraternity has been known for in the community since its inception. Head Coach Mike LaChance is β€œexcited to be a part of a β€˜new model’ of Fratmen football. The additional help with the day-to-day operations will allow me to be a better coach, and allow us to reconnect with the community.”

Past President Darren Cocchetto has taken a step back to Vice-President while continuing his role as Commissioner of the OFC.
