The Canadian Junior National Team had its second blow out victory at the International Federation of American Football 2014 Junior championship on Thursday. Β In 42 degree heat, the Canadian team defeated the team from France 54 to 0. Β This follows up a 91 to 0 drubbing of Kuwait.
Leading the Canadian offensive attack was Quebec running back Phillip Lessard-VezinaΒ who had 153 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns on 9 carries. Β Alberta’s Hunchuk brothers hooked up for a scoring play in the third quarter with Brett throwing it to CFC Top 100 receiver Colton. Β Another CFC Top 100 receiver Quebec’s Louis-Mathieu Normandin had a touchdown in the 2nd quarter to put the Canadians up by 3 scores. Β The Canadians face Austria in the final round robin game and ifΒ victorious, a probableΒ match up in the gold medal game with the Americans, who should win their group.
“The kids were very excited to play against France today,” said Canada head coach and defensive coordinator, Warren Craney. “We knew we had to bring a physical game and wanted to send a message early.”
“After a slow start, we managed to shut down the France offense and our offense moved the ball easily including three rushing touchdowns by Lessard-Vezina,” added Craney. “Vezina was the early spark we needed to change the momentum of the game.
Canada’s defense played another strong game allowing 42 yards of total offense, all of which were on the ground.
“Our defense has been solid since training camp and are extremely talented and anxious to test themselves with our next opponent.”
