ATH Simmons ready to be a star

Wide receiver and quarterback, Darius Simmons, believes no one can stop him.Ā The 6’0, 175lbs receiver hails from MontrĆ©al, QuebĆ©c and is part of the Class of 2017.

Simmons says he enjoys being a difference maker.

“What I like about (being a wide receiver) is that I get an opportunity to do something. I can really take advantage of it and maybe gain yards or score.”

Football has given Simmons a lot of memories in the seven years since he first hit the gridiron, and has found early success.

“The fourth quarter comebacks and winning three championships with my brothers are the most memorable (moments),” he said.

Simmons is no stranger toĀ playing under pressure that comes with the territory of playing two skilled positions, but he knows he can get through it with his talent.

“My work ethic and natural talent gives me the upper hand in football.”

As for professional influences, #10 feels strongly behind his choice.

“This year it has been Odell (Beckham Jr.) because he gets soĀ much hate for what he does but he still works every single day just to prove people wrong.”

Simmons sees being from QuebƩc as not an ideal place to call home.

“I just really want to make it far in life. Ā Being a kid who plays in QuebĆ©c the recruitment process isn’t as strong as I think it should be.”

Darius will be attending John Abbott College in the fall, remaining in his home province. As for any potential U Sport opportunities, after the two years at John Abbott, that is still to be determined. Simmons has had no official or unofficial visits to any Universities or schools south of the border.

“Football means everything to me. Ā I wouldn’t be who I am today without it. I want to shock the league (next) year. I don’t believe I will have problems at the next level of football. Whatever is thrown at me, I will be able to overcome.”
