Balancing every day life as a High Performance Athlete

Well, its been a while since I have blogged my journey on the National Women’s Tackle Football Team… we are now 4 weeks away from our final prep camp before departing to Sweden on June 24th. Its hard to believe that almost 11 months ago this journey that has changed so many female football players lives across Canada began.
I have been very busy over the past few months since selection camp training and study in preparation for Worlds.
I have faced a challenge along my journey and that is balancing my real paying job and football! Its interesting when you set a side all things in your life to focus on one goal. That is what I have done along with my 44 team mates across Canada. Just before I selected to this team, I started a new job in Human Resources managing our Compensation and Benefits for the company I work for, AND than my dream came true to represent Canada. For the last few months, I work out at 530am at the gym, work full days, either practice or do my running programs at night and than do some more work. I also set aside time to study my play book to be prepared for prep camp. It was up until lately I took for granted how a High Performance Athlete really manages time and has a balanced lifestyle. I would not give a thing looking back on this journey.
When you have a goal in your life, whether its to play pro, play university or represent your province or country; never give up once you set your mind to it! It all pays off in the end and you become a stronger athlete by overcoming the obstacles you face throughout your training. The support you receive from your co workers, family, team mates and coaches is what gives you that drive on those days that may want to give up!
Well until next time…. keep pushing towards your dreams. As we grow closer to prep Camp I will share my experiences and provide updates on the team. We are hoping to have a lap top in Sweden with us and will be sure to add CanadaFootballchat to our distribution list to provide updates on our progress!
I encourage others to share their experiences on balancing life and sports!

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
