BLOG: Thursday Sacks (7)

Welcome to yet another edition of your weekly top CIS defender of the past weekend. This week we saw a lot of great defensive play from a lot of defenders. The top defense in the country is Western who rolled over the Ottawa Gee-Gees, 63-19 on Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs lead the CIS in least amount of points scored by offenses and sacks. Here are my top defensive performers for the week.

Saskatchewan Huskies rookie linebacker, Justin Filteau.
This is the second time, Justin has made Thursday sacks. Filteau before coming to the Huskies he was a four time CJFL national champion and last year he was CJFL All-Star. This year, Justin has 27 solo tackles and 17 assists. In the lost to the #1 team in the country, Calgary Dinos, Filteau had nine solo tackles and four assists for a total of eleven tackles. Filteau is for sure in the running for Canada-West defensive rookie of the year.

Acadia Axemen defense lineman, Jesse St. James.
St. James had a terrific game in Acadia’s, 38-21 lost to MTA. Jesse had five solos which includes two sacks for a loss of ten years. He also forced a fumble in the game. He leads the country with eight sacks and is currently fourth in sack yards with 34 yards.

Waterloo Warriors third year linebacker, Brandon Corelli
Corelli played the best game of his life on Saturday afternoon as Waterloo lost to University of Toronto Varsity Blues. Brandon had unheard amount of eleven solo tackles and three assists for 12.5 tackles all together. He also had one interception for a loss of 14 yards. Brandon is second this year among CIS solo tacklers with 40 tacklers. He was named AUS defense player of the week.

Laurier Golden Hawks rookie linebacker, Matt Williams.
Williams was fantastic in Laurier’s 30-21 lost to McMaster. Williams had 11 solo tackles and two assists for a total of 12 tackles were recorded.

York Lions fifth defensive end, Hussein Hazime.
Hussein played huge role in York’s one point lost to Queens, 33-32. Hazime had five solo tackles along with four assists for a total of seven tackles. Hazime leads the CIS in sack yards with 46 and also leads the CIS in tackles with 54. Hazine is a frequently person in my Thursday sack blog posts.

Guelph Gryphons entire defense.
Guelph defense came up big for the win over Windsor Lancers this past weekend. Guelph sacked the Lancers QB. The defense had eight sacks for a loss of 49 years in the lost.

Montreal Carabins defensive lineman,Jonathan Boissonneault-Glaou.
Jonathan had great game against last week’s top team, Laval in the country. Glaou only had five solo tackles and two assists for a total of six tackles. He also had two sacks for a loss of 7 yards.

Concordia Stingers rookie defensive tackle, Michael Sanelli.
Sanelli played in his first game of the season against Bishops. He did not disappointed as he had two sacks for 12 yards. He also had six tackles and one assist in the 63-0 blowout win over the Gaiters. He was a talented recruit from the GTA.

Regina Rams Defensive back, Mason Rossler.
The Rams lost to Manitoba, 46-49,Rossler played a huge role in the lost. Rossler had the best numbers of the week with 11 solo tackles and six assists for a total of 14 tackles. Rossle is seventh in tackles per a game with the average of seven tackles.
